Concordia University Chicago (CUC) invites applications for the full-time, exempt position of Head Football Coach. This position reports directly to the Director of Athletics and is located in River Forest, IL.
The Head Football Coach is responsible for the overall direction for the football program. This includes, but is not limited to, recruitment and retention of student-athletes to meet enrollment and roster expectations; practice and game management; oversight of Football Coaching staff; scheduling use of facilities and transportation; efficient budgeting; promotion of the program; and developing student-athletes as needed to have a competitive and successful football program. The Head Coach incorporates the Concordia University's mission and fostering a Christian environment for the student-athlete's academic, athletic, social, and spiritual development.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Creates and instructs developmental techniques, strategy, and competitive practices to maximize skill development, potential talent, and knowledge of the sport
- Implements effective game preparation and strategy for high level of competition
- Cultivates an environment consistent with the values of the university and fosters the development of the whole student-athlete, instilling self-discipline, accountability, and integrity into the program
- Arranges facility reservations and travel details for the program
- Maintains fiscal responsibility for the budget provided by the university to effectively run the program in the purchasing, storage, and maintenance of uniforms and equipment
- Fundraises appropriately to meet the needs of the program and department in collaboration with the University Foundation and Alumni Office
- Creates and implements an effective strategy for recruiting student-athletes that fit the university academically, athletically, and spiritually while meeting enrollment and roster goals set by the University and Athletic Department
- Maintains retention of student-athletes through identifying, coordinating, and facilitating academic support for the success of all student-athletes
- Supervises assistant coaching staff and assists with game administration
- Collaborates with members of the Athletic Department in support of the Football Program and department as a whole to ensure the program is compliant with all NCAA, NACC, and CUC policies
- Candidates must support and be committed to the mission and identity of Concordia University Chicago, a university of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod (LCMS)

- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in planning and directing a collegiate football program
- Commitment to maintaining a minimum standard of abilities to be competitive
- Ability to lead and supervise coaching staff
- Experience and understanding of working with an established budget
- Successful recruitment and retention strategies
- Exhibits a service mentality toward all stakeholders
- All communication with stakeholders is effective, professional, accurate, and timely
- Improves work performance and that of others by being receptive to and appropriately sharing information
- Strong administrative skills, including related computer and technology skills
- Superior verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Enthusiastic supporter of Lutheran higher education and Concordia University Chicago
Minimum Experience Required:
- 5-7 years intercollegiate coaching experience required
- 3-5 years Intercollegiate Coordinator or Head Coach experience preferred
Education Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Sports Administration, Management, or related field required; Master's degree preferred
