About this Role:
The Head (VP) of Communications and Advocacy is responsible for leading the Communications and patient advocacy strategy, function and team for Takeda’s Global Oncology BU (GOBU). This leader will have oversight of the Oncology Product and Pipeline Communications, Digital and Social Media Communications, Creative Services and Branding, Reputation Management and Thought Leadership, Patient Advocacy and Media Relations functions within this team.
This role will help build brand awareness for GOBU by formulating and implementing compelling communication strategies and initiatives, and by developing, launching, and monitoring programs and engagement platforms that can extend market leadership, support business growth and respond to and neutralize competitive challenges for the company. Objectives for this position include:
Develop and deliver executive communication strategy and associated message platform to strategically position the company with internal and key external audiences.
Serve as chief communication strategist and counselor to top executives and other members of senior management.
Work closely with strategic partners to enable business objectives. Lead and direct large, complex initiatives across the organization by directing the development and implementation of internal and external public relations plans for the company; and
Provide strategy and vision in the area of internal and external communications materials - including external media information, associate and external meeting content and message points, memos and organization announcements.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee the development, implementation, and optimization of integrated communication strategies and programs for GOBU
Develops and executes forward-looking public relations plan, and leads global communications for Hematology and Solid Tumor franchises, including brand launches, life cycle management (LCM), disease state awareness, Oncology Therapeutic Area Unit (OTAU) late-stage pipeline assets and Oncology Business Development and Crisis Management
Provides communications leadership and direction for senior management peers and key decision makers at Takeda to ensure transparent Communications and alignment with corporate KPIs and company vision and mission
Leads and develops a dynamic communications team to execute on the strategy for Takeda Oncology to educate and engage employees and maintain a strategic, best-in-class approach with internal communications that continues to foster a culture of diversity & inclusion, patient-centricity, and scientific and commercial excellence
Develop a social media presence and maximize the tools to engage, inform and educate about Takeda’s products.
Advising on external Public Relations and communications support for all GOBU products. Plan, direct and coordinate the activities of assigned communications team to ensure the effective and efficient creation and implementation of internal and public relations activities.
Lead development and manage the executive participation in public relations and communication programs for confidential business initiatives, product launches, business development and partnership communications, crisis communication and corporate sponsorships.
Lead design of appropriate internal and external communication activity including speaking events, external board participation and media interviews.
Lead the business with confidence and passion, and continually reinforce company values and culture. Maintain effective internal communications, foster teamwork, and be a constant source of inspiration and strong leadership to the organization.
Collaborate with the other Business Units and corporate functions and other regions on key initiatives.
Oversee the execution of successful corporate and functional initiatives, especially annual corporate goals.
Lead, direct, and follow through on increasing cross-functional collaboration and alignment with therest of the BU teams, and other Takeda functions.
Work closely with each direct report to ensure sound strategic thinking, accurate forecasting, superior tactical execution, and commitment to results, collaborative and cross-functional behavior, and the continuous development of talent. Foster a high performance business environment with clear accountability for delivering results.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree preferred.
15+ years in professional Communications and public relations experience in a biotech/pharmaceutical company and/or in an agency setting.
Demonstrated track record of leading a team to execute successful, proactive global communications programs that employ creativity and use of a variety of tools, forums, media and metrics.
Demonstrated leadership building provocative and enduring brands in the pharmaceutical space with an understanding of how to stand out in an extremely crowded marketplace.
Possesses a strong understanding of the full life cycle of oncology pharmaceutical drug development, business strategy, business development, compliance and operations.
Maintains excellent personal relationships with healthcare journalists & industry media.
Demonstrated expertise in the development of communications strategies in reputation management, media relations, internal and digital communications, thought leadership and executive visibility.
Proven experience in developing global employee engagement and corporate social responsibility programs.
Established leadership ability to develop corporate communications in close collaboration with R&D, business development, global commercial, human resources and legal/regulatory/compliance.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities across several regions while delivering high-quality results.
Demonstrated experience building and developing a corporate communications group as well as the ability to improve global processes and to deploy talent.
A quick study of complex and dynamic issues and creative problem-solver with highly organized approach to developing high impact communications.
Expertise with issues & crisis management to include product, manufacturing practices and location-/employee-specific risk mitigation.
Demonstrates strategic enterprise thinking to find innovative ways to serve patients, and build trust, reputation and business.
