ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Function: Coaches are responsible for teaching, leading, and exemplifying GRACE Christian? School's mission through the coaching platform and partner with the Athletic Director to allow student-athletes to grow and flourish to impact their world for Christ through interscholastic competition.
- Agrees and lives out "The FCA Coach's Mandate".
- Adheres to all pre-season, in-season, and post-season responsibilities, as well as all other guidelines outlined in the Athletics Handbook.
- Enforces and follows all GRACE Christian, NCISAA, EPIC and CAMSC conference rules regarding scholastic eligibility requirements, practice start dates and off-season workouts (www.ncisaa.or?g)?
- Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to participate in the sport.
- Assesses players' skills and assigns team positions.
- Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development.
- Works with the athletic director in scheduling facilities for practices and competition.
- Report game scores and recaps immediately following each athletic event.
- Assigns duties to an assistant coach, as necessary.
- Instructs players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
- Establishes, publishes, and enforces reasonable team rules that follow the policies of the GRACE Christian Athletic Department. These rules must be given in writing to the team and the players' parents at a preseason meeting and followed with an athlete and parent signature. Prior to such distribution, the rules must be reviewed and approved by? the Athletic Director.
- Submit TEAM ROSTERS to the Athletic Director and Athletic Administrative Assistant within seven days (five school days) of the first practice. *There are to be no additions to the roster once it is submitted without prior approval from the Athletic Director.
- Remains current on CPR and AED certification.
- Observes players, during competition and practice, to determine the needs for individual or team improvement.
- Determines game strategy based on the team's capabilities.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and always provides proper supervision of athletes.
- Encourages student athletes to maintain a high academic standard.
- Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete's injury.
- Communications with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the athletic performance of their student.
- Models good sportsmanship and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
- Acts as a team representative and promotes the sport by communicating with the news media, Eagles Club, service clubs, and other organizations, as necessary.
- Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
- Works with the athletic director to develop a policy for awards and submits a list of award winners at the end of the season.
- Participates in special activities to include parent's night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.
- Assists Athletic Director in collecting eligibility forms, athletic physical forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory, and other related records.
- Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
- Each Coach shall schedule an End of Season Meeting (EOS) with the Athletic Director following the final contest of the season to evaluate the program, evaluate the coach's performance, submit final reports, and return outstanding equipment and supplies.
Other Duties
- Attends staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
- Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director, Secondary Principal, or Head of School.
Days:
In general, this position is scheduled to work Monday through Friday during the given athletic season. Certain work requirements, events, responsibilities, or unplanned academic calendar changes could result in a need for a temporary modification of this schedule, including work on the weekend. Such schedule changes are determined in coordination with the Athletic Director.
Hours:
This position works an average of 15-20 hours per week. Due to the nature of the Athletics department, exact hours are determined by the Athletic Director and may vary on a weekly basis, depending on sports or academic schedules.
