Head Beach Volleyball Coach - High School

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES shall include, but not be limited to the following:

• Meet and instruct assigned activities in the locations and times designated
• Create an environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
• Prepare for assignments
• Encourage students to set and maintain acceptable standards of behavior
• Employ a variety of techniques to enhance the activity
• Assist students to become self-directed learners
• Understand and apply knowledge about student growth and development in order to provide maximum student learning
• Implement the District's philosophy of education
• Enforce safety precautions and guidelines to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
• Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by laws, District policy and administrative regulations
• Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student behavior and conduct
• Enforce and follow the policies and administrative regulations of the District

• Has responsibility for the overall supervision of the program, including freshman, sophomore and junior varsity teams
• Is in charge of assigning duties of assistant coaches working in the program and conducting certain aspects of their evaluation
• Is responsible for keeping practice periods for the sport within reason and with due consideration to the coaching staff and welfare of participants
• Is responsible for the general upkeep, protection and inventory of equipment under his/her jurisdiction
• Writes at the end of the season an annual report evaluating the program with recommendations for improvements
• Is responsible for recommending purchase of the equipment, supplies and uniforms as appropriate
• Has a shared responsibility for striving to build good sportsmanship and developing good public relations in the school and community
• Plans and schedules a regular program of practice in season
• Oversees the safety condition of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that student are present
• Promotes the sport by prompt and accurate score reporting to the local media
• Cooperates with all other coaches in providing the optimum sports program possible under existing conditions
• Keeps abreast of new developments, innovative ideas and techniques by attendance at clinics workshops and readings in the field
• Performs other duties as related to their assignments as designated by the Principal and or the Athletic Director
• Enforces discipline and sportsman like behavior at all times and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students
• Encourages good sportsmanship and desirable pupil/teacher relationships
• Be certain that all team members under their direction have successfully passed a physical examination, have parental permission and an insurance statement signed
• Thoroughly explains eligibility requirements and participation rules to all squad members. If a violation occurs, make sure you discuss it with the athlete. Don't assume he/she knows the consequences, procedure and recourses. Due process must be utilized.
• Is responsible for clearing with the Athletic Director, the departure time for trips that involve loss of school time, and for seeing that the faculty is given adequate and appropriate notice
• Should see that all participants have transportation home when returning from road trips in late evening hours
• Monitors the eligibility status of all team members. Provide opportunities for remediation such as study sessions, tutoring, etc.
• Coordinate a sequential development of skill and strategies with JV and Freshman coaches
• Give support and guidance to assistant coaches
• Organize and run a summer program
• Maintain accurate team and individual records
• Assist in development of game schedule
• Develop budget
• Inventory and maintain equipment
• Plan and implement fundraisers as needed
• Work with Middle School Coaches
• Develop practice schedule for all team
• Perform all duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Coaches shall be approved in accordance with the personnel policies of the School District and in accordance with the Arizona Revised Statutes. All head varsity coaches shall have a valid Arizona Teaching Certificate on file or recorded in the office of the principal or his/her designee. At least two years Volleyball Coaching experience and /or college level playing experience.

• An understanding of basic to advanced volleyball techniques and strategies
• Capable of modeling skills and physically running drills

Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets written documents. Ability to respond effectively to inquiries or complaints. Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
