Title:Hardware Security Systems Technician
Department: GMSC – Operation’s Technology Division
Reports to: Director of Field Services and VP of Field Services
Location: 11 Penn Plaza
General Purpose of Job/Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Security Systems Technician to join our team. In this role, you will play a vital part in providing comprehensive support for various client locations, focusing on Access Control Systems (ACS), Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV), Visitor Management Systems (VMS), Facial Recognition, Mobile Access, and building infrastructure network and technology. Under the guidance of the Director of Field Services, your responsibilities will include monitoring, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining hardware and software equipment that supports the smooth operation of the building infrastructure, both on-site and remotely. Additionally, you will collaborate with the team to keep technology up to date and take on new projects to enhance building security.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
• Install, support, and troubleshoot all aspects of the Access Control System, CCTV, Visitor Management System, Facial Recognition, Mobile Access, and building infrastructure network and technology.
• Perform turnstile troubleshooting for security and mechanical issues.
• Install and replace turnstile components and access control readers.
• Assist with the installation, programming, and calibration of cameras.
• Install and maintain door components such as Mag locks, door strikes, crash bars, etc.
• Rack mount and interconnect security and network equipment.
• Ability to run cables when needed, terminate Ethernet cables and fiber.
• Install and maintain Uninterrupted Power Supplies (UPS).
• Participate in rollouts, upgrades, and migrations.
• Manage data and information and adhere to levels of confidentiality with information in respect to privacy laws.
• Transport access control, CCTV, and network equipment to various locations throughout NYC.
• Demonstrate proficiency in using iPhone, iPad, and Android devices.
• Develop and assisting in composing system documentation.
• Travel to various New York City properties, with occasional domestic travel to Chicago and San Francisco.
• Participate in rotating after-hour on-call responsibilities.
• Assist with project management tasks, including coordinating and executing security system installations and upgrades.
• Conduct thorough onsite surveys to assess the security system requirements of client locations.
• Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to develop detailed project plans and timelines.
• Coordinate with clients and internal teams to ensure smooth project implementation and timely completion.
• Provide technical expertise and guidance during project meetings and discussions.
• Document survey findings and project requirements accurately and comprehensively.
• Identify potential risks and challenges during onsite surveys and proposing effective solutions.
• Collaborate with the team to develop cost estimates and quotes for security system installations and upgrades.
• Conduct regular progress updates and reports to project managers and stakeholders.
• Monitor project milestones, deadlines, and budgets to ensure successful project execution.
• Adhere to industry standards and regulations while implementing security system installations.
• Keep up-to-date with the latest security technologies, trends, and best practices related to access control,
CCTV, and visitor management systems.
Basic Qualifications:
• Ability to work in a professional manner as a representative of the team, demonstrating good judgment and
discretion as necessary.
• Strong ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
• Proficient organizational skills to maintain well-organized documentation of completion forms, reports, logs,
and records.
• Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with external vendors, general contractors, upper
management, and high-level executives.
• Self-motivated and driven, with a willingness to go above and beyond work expectations and step outside
the comfort zone to learn and gain new work experiences.
Basic Hardware Qualifications:
• Minimum of 2 years of practical experience with an Access Control System, preferably with knowledge of
systems such as S2, Lenel, AMAG, Honeywell, or Genetec.
• Fundamental understanding of installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance procedures for Access
Control, CCTV systems (Exacqvision/Genetec), and network equipment.
• Proficiency in using power tools, performing hands-on tasks, and working at elevated heights when
necessary.
• Ability to adhere to and apply OSHA regulations and safety protocols while working in the field.
• Familiarity with mercury panels, programming, and Access Control wiring.
• Competence in performing complete door installations, including Maglocks, Door Strikes, cutouts, wiring,
testing, and Fire tie connections.
• Basic comprehension of turnstile operations, preferably with knowledge of brands such as DSI, Gunnebo,
Orion, Smarter, etc.
Basic Software Qualifications:
• A minimum of 1 year of practical experience in configuring computers, printers, phones, network switches,
and other electronic peripherals.
• Proficiency in operating within a Windows-based environment, including Windows 10, 11, Server 2016, and
familiarity with Ubuntu, Linux, and SQL (knowledge of SQL is a plus).
• Basic understanding of Active Directory, Group Policy, Network Attached Storage (NAS), and programming
scripts.
• Ability to extract and manipulate data from multiple databases, both small and large, to generate important
reports.
• Familiarity with software tools and applications commonly used in the Security Systems industry.
• Strong troubleshooting skills in resolving software-related issues and conflicts.
• Proficient in using productivity software such as Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for
documentation, reporting, and data analysis.
• Ability to quickly adapt to new software and technologies relevant to the Security Systems field.
Education / Experience:
• Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in an installer/service support related environment, preferably in the
field of Security Systems.
• While not required, a degree in Computer Electronics or Digital Electronics would be beneficial.
• Preferred certifications:
o OSHA 30 Certification, demonstrating knowledge of safety regulations and practices.
o AXIS Certification, showcasing expertise in AXIS products and solutions.
o S2/Lenel/AMAG/Honeywell/Genetec Certification, indicating proficiency in specific access control
systems.
o Lift Certifications (Single or Boom), certifying the ability to operate lifts safely and effectively.
o Any CCTV Certification, highlighting expertise in closed-circuit television systems.
