Description Approximately May 15th through September 15th The Docks & Harbors Department is hiring Part Time Limited Harbor Technician's to join our team. WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR Successful candidate should have: Excellent oral and written skills. Excellent customer service skills Able to research and interpret regulations. Ability to work with a multitude of tenants and public while enforcing rules and regulations.
Ability to exercise tact, self-restraint, judgment, and strategy in dealing with a variety of people. Ability to work and collaborate with multiple state and federal agencies. Ability to interpret and implement applicable sections of 33 CFR Part 105 as they apply to the department's Facility Security Plans (FSP).
WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION This position is based out of the Port Field Office (PFO) near the Gold Belt Tram. Work days and hours vary and will be based upon the cruise ship schedule. This position will work up to five days per week, and up to 8 hours per shift.
This position has the potential to work a highly flexible schedule if desired. Typical Responsibilities DESCRIPTION OF WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING You will be performing routine tasks to assist Harbor Officers with the operation, maintenance, and management of the City and Borough of Juneau's docks, harbors and associated facilities. Your primary duty will be assisting with Port of Juneau security during cruise ship port calls.
You may be tasked with any number of security related duties to include: ID checks, passenger screening, patrols on the port security vessel, and assisting with vendor and loading zone management. When you are not actively engaged in security duties, you will have a chance to hone your maintenance and customer service skills by assisting with cleaning and repairs to the facilities and assisting customers. Minimum Qualifications Employment is contingent upon passing a background check.
Education: High school graduation or the equivalent. Other: Not less than 18 years of age at time of appointment; AND A valid Driver's License at time of appointment and for continued employment. In accordance with 33 CFR Part 105: The selected candidate will be required to sign non-disclosure agreements for sensitive security information.
The selected candidate must be able to successfully obtain a Transportation Workers Identification credential (TWIC) within 60 days of appointment. Desired Qualifications Experience: Prior experience in vessel operation exceeding 18ft in length including VHF radio communications experience is desired but not required. Background in Customer Service.
