ABOUT HANDS

The Kentucky Health Access Nurturing Development Services (HANDS) program is a voluntary home visitation program for any new or expectant parents. HANDS supports families as they build healthy, safe environments for the optimal growth and development of children. The main goals of HANDS is to ensure healthy pregnancies and births, child growth and development, safe homes, and self sufficient families.

HANDS supports families throughout their pregnancy and the first two years of the baby's life. Families meet with a HANDS parent visitor who can answer questions and address concerns about pregnancy or baby's first years. All families receive information and learn about resources available in the community for new parents. Some families receive further support through home visitation.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A PROFESSIONAL ASSESSMENT HOME VISITOR

As a professional in social work, you play an essential role in providing family services for our nonprofit. You are responsible for conducting the parent survey, which involves interviewing expectant parents and parents of newborns. On a quarterly basis, you visit with assigned HANDS program participants to provide an additional perspective that directly supports the family. Working alongside the family support worker (FSW), you also compile information and referrals for community resources that you believe will best help clients based on their individual needs.

Using your expert training in psychology, you utilize trauma-informed, evidence-based practices and policies when delivering services to ensure your clients receive the best care available to them. At times, you conduct home visits in order to meet the needs of both the program and your clients. You enjoy having a job where you get to make a difference in the lives of those you work with using your training in social work and psychology, which is why you are perfect for this position in family services!

Do you have excellent verbal and written communication skills? Are you highly organized and attentive to detail? Can you effectively prioritize tasks while demonstrating good time management? Are you able to maintain a friendly and professional attitude? Do you enjoy helping people? If so, you might just be perfect for this family services position with our nonprofit!
