GENERAL STATEMENT:
The Salvation Army is a branch of the Christian Church and the ultimate goal of all programs is spiritual regeneration of all people.
SCOPE OF POSITION:
The Gym Program Assistant is under direct supervision of the Athletic/ Gym Director and is responsible to aide in the implementation of the youth sports programs, mission integration, outreach to youth and families through all gym activities and athletic programs. The Gym Program Assistant will assist in seasonal programs such as Holiday and summer programs, and assist Social Services as requested by the Social Service Director.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum High School diploma or equivalent; college degree or college classes preferred
• Minimum of professional or volunteer experience working with children and/or young adults and community members
• Program leadership and organizing experience preferred
• Coaching, athletic club leadership essential
• Knowledge of The Salvation Army programs, policies and procedures

• Must have Montana and ability to pass TSA MVR check and in-house driving test (within 30 days) preferred.
• Must complete and adhere to Protecting the Mission requirements and guidelines, including the ability to pass a TSA background check
SOFTWARE-RELATED SKILLS:
• Microsoft Word required; PowerPoint and Excel beneficial
• Proficient in the use of the internet for purposes of communication, research, online shopping (for Corps materials,) webpages, and social media
• Lotus Notes preferred
• Working knowledge of integrated database applications and ability to use new software programs with basic training
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work with Athletic/ Gym Director or Corps Officers to ensure that the Mission of The Salvation Army is integrated to gym activities wherever possible
• Promote outreach to youth and families through athletic programming
• Support Corps programs and assist in coordination of activities as needed
• Support the Corps Social Service and outreach programs by preforming tasks as requested by the Social Service Director
• Represent The Salvation Army and the athletic programs with a positive disposition toward its programs
• Work a non-standard work week generally in accordance with The Salvation Army athletic programs, tournaments, gym rentals, or events.
• Assist Athletic/ Gym Director in the setting and taking down of the facility used for games, rentals, and special events.
• Janitorial duties as needed of the gym facility and all of its rooms; such as but not limited to cleaning, disinfecting, refilling paper products, floors in concert with the custodian.
• Maintaining organization of the athletic equipment room, uniforms, concession sales supplies, and general sports equipment.
• Assist in the clerical support for correspondence, record keeping, filing, and stats at meetings related to programs responsibility
• Handle and count money as needed generally for concessions, entry fees, and apparel sales.
• Perform any and all other duties as assigned
Seasonal:
• Work with the Athletic/ Gym Director in planning and implementing season activities i.e. summer activities, Thanksgiving, Christmas
• Assist in the organization and running summer sports camps for various ages and sports as needed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis
• Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead
• Ability to operate telephone
• Ability to climb a ladder or officials stand up to 8 feet
• Ability to operate a desktop or laptop computer
• Ability to lift up to 65 lbs. (usually sports equipment like volleyball standards)
• Ability to access and produce information from a computer
• Ability to understand written information
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle

Health Insurance: Low bi-weekly premiums for employee-only coverage, Kaiser HMO for those residing in a Kaiser service area, Anthem EPO/PPO is available for those residing outside a Kaiser service area. Voluntary +1 and +family coverage at additional cost. Delta Dental DHMO and DPPO dental insurance are offered.
Life and Voluntary Options. An employer-paid life insurance policy covers employees. Voluntary supplemental life, short-term and long-term disability plans are available.
Retirement Plans: Employer-funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at five years eligible service time. Plus, an employee-funded voluntary 403(b) option.
Parental Leave: The benefit is 40 hours of Paid Leave for qualifying events.
Sick Leave: 12 days of Sick Leave annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after three months’ service time.
Paid Vacation:
- Two weeks annually, accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions.
- Four weeks annually, accruing from day one, for exempt positions.
- Accrued vacation is eligible for use after six months’ service time.
Paid Holidays: 13 designated holidays + 1 floating holiday per year
