The Medical Assistant is one of the first people most patients encounter when entering Gunnison Valley Orthopedics and thus exemplary customer service is expected at all times. This position is responsible for greeting patients, assigning and escorting patients to rooms, collecting patient medical history, point of care diagnostic testing, patient follow up via phone calls and electronic routes. Medical assistants are cross-trained to perform administrative and clinical duties.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Experience: Previous family practice, ortho practice, clinic or hospital experience preferred. EMR experience preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology required. Excellent communication, customer service and organizational skills required. Experience with computers, fax/copy machines, telephone etiquette.
Licenses/Certification: Maintenance of current CPR or BLS preferred.
- Projects a professional manner and image and complies with organization dress code.
- Scribes notes, codes visits as needed, keeps clinic flowing
- Reconciles medications for each patient at each visit; update EMR records
- Ensures all medications are labeled correctly and assists with the removal of all expired, damaged and/or contaminated medications are removed properly
- Coordinates courier needs and communication for proper sterilizing and stocking of all instruments in both clinics
- Restock clinic rooms throughout the day, mostly in the morning with: gloves, packets (radiology, SX, PT, Etc.), sharps containers, pillowcases, etc.
- Restock carts, surgical trays on a weekly basis or PRN
- Write and authorize MRI/CT orders for patients per physician order, then work with insurance counselor and follow-up, to get them back on schedule or to make sure they will pursue imaging.
- Schedule surgeries in a timely manner with OR and make sure patients are adequately prepped for surgeries with pre-op clearance, DME, Etc.; enter all pertinent information in One Medical Passport
- Directs care associate in providing patient education and training based on each patient's needs and abilities.
- Complete workers comp forms and send to adjustor with note. Submit pre-auth request to workers comp if needed. Follow-up with workers comp

Compensation: non certified - $17.00 - $19.55/hr,
Certified $18.00 - $23.40/hour depending on experience.
