- Responsible for leading and coordinating fitness sessions for a specified health and fitness program.
- Advises participants on program and class procedures and policies, as appropriate.
- Identify and correct any exercise performed incorrectly by a participant.
- Provide exercise modifications for participants with specific needs (i.e., back and shoulder injuries, pregnancy, new exercisers, etc.).
- Teach students to monitor their heart rate during group the exercise sessions.
- Be available before and after class (approximately 15 minutes on either side) to assist participants with content questions, equipment identification and set-up and post-workout questions that pertain to the fitness class having been taught.
- Assess the safety level of the group exercise room and equipment before, during and after each class. Making sure it is safe and in operational condition.
- Ensures that safety and injury prevention policies and procedures are adhered to by participants; reports accidents and prepares accident reports, as required.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Provide excellent customer service to participants.
- Knowledge of fitness training and educations methods and techniques in area of specialty.
- A willingness to sub classes for other instructors whenever appropriate and possible.
- Provide music that is appropriate in nature and speed for class format.

Knowledge Required by the Position
- CPR and First Aid certification required.
- Industry-standard and discipline-specific certification(s) in all group exercise formats being taught by the individual instructor. These certifications must be up-to-date and maintained at all times.
- Must possess basic fitness knowledge.
- Must possess outstanding communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work positively and professionally with community participants and college members.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
The work consists of routine physical- fitness training duties. The variety of customer needs contributes to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to provide quality fitness instruction to members of the public.
CONTACTS
- Contacts are typically with co-workers, other college personnel, faculty, staff, students, and members of the general public.
- Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, uses tools or equipment that require a high degree of dexterity.
- The work is typically performed in a Group Fitness studio. The employee is exposed to noise.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
None.
- Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
- Must be certified as a Group Fitness Instructor in industry-standard and discipline-specific certification(s).
