Responsibilities
This position may perform the following groundskeeping maintenance tasks on University properties:
- Mowing, edging, raking, power blowing, weed eating, pulling weeds, removal of litter and debris from assigned areas, pest control, pruning, and watering plants. Serves as the Team Lead responsible for assisting the supervisor with coordinating work, leading special projects and training new employees. Identifies additional needs in assigned areas and ensures jobs are completed to University standards. Serves in the absence of the supervisor, which includes scheduling work/service request, approving time and leave, and giving day-to-day instruction.
- Performs other miscellaneous tasks including, but not limited to: transplanting plant materials, plant installation for minor landscape renovations, soil excavation and removal.
- Ensures that all manual and power equipment is proper working condition and reports maintenance problems to the supervisor.
- Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor or higher authority. Drives University vehicle as necessary.
Qualifications
Completion of ninth grade.
Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including standing, bending, reaching, stooping for long periods, lifting/moving up to 50 lbs in excess, and working under all weather conditions.
A valid State of Florida or Georgia driver's license or the ability to obtain prior to hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related University policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of and ability to identify safety hazards and necessary safety precautions to establish a safe work environment.
- Knowledge of landscaping and groundskeeping techniques.
- Ability to safely operate machinery, tools, equipment and materials used in landscaping and groundskeeping work.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
