Job description

The Diversity and Inclusion Internship Program at The Henry Ford is a cohort-based program that offers professional development, mentorship, and networking opportunities. We invite diverse candidates* who are curious about careers in the museum world to become a part of our legacy and take it forward. For Summer 2024, internships will last 10 weeks, projected to begin on June 3rd and conclude on August 9th.

How will we work together?
The Graphic Design Intern will collaborate with our in-house Design and Marketing team in every stage of our projects, creating high-quality designs for marketing materials, social media, digital content, and more. You will have a project lead who will mentor and guide you throughout your time with us.
The Graphic Design Intern can expect to work hybrid, with much of their time being spent remotely. Based on specific project needs, there are times when you and the team will work on-site at The Henry Ford's campus in Dearborn, MI.
Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Brainstorming with the Design team to come up with design ideas and concepts.
  • Preparing and designing production work according to client specifications.
  • Identifying and defining constraints and timelines in relation to your designs.
  • Ensuring that printed projects meet specified color and quality standards.
  • Designing and preparing digital files for external vendors.
  • Delivering on-brand design for the institution.
  • Working collaboratively with team members throughout the institution.
  • Being willing and able to attend virtual meetings in EST time zone (GMT -4:00) and to respond to emails and messages in a timely manner.

What should you have?
The Graphic Design Intern should have a passion for design, innovation, storytelling, and brand.
Competitive candidates will be:
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative virtual team environment
  • Willing to learn and take on challenging projects
  • Passionate about design and design thinking
  • Curious
  • Authentic
  • Able to give and receive constructive feedback
  • Proficient with the Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experienced with using cloud-based file storage and a DAM
  • Knowledgeable of marketing, production, website design, corporate identity, product packaging, advertisements, and multimedia design
  • Familiar with current Graphic Design trends and best practices
  • Prepared to submit a portfolio of completed design projects and other multimedia-related works of art

Here are a few extras that could enhance your candidacy, but are not required:
  • Experience with animation and motion-design
  • Experience in 3D animation (Cinema 4D, Blender, Unity, etc.)
  • Passion for new design technology and interest in the metaverse
