The Indigenous Resilience Center (IRes) in Arizona Institute for Resilience at the University of Arizona is seeking a highly motivated Grants Management research specialist (Grant and Contract Coordinator III). The Grants Management research specialist will provide grants training to tribes that is focused on identifying grants, determining eligibility, grant writing, creating a budget, data analysis and presentation in proposals, creating graphics, and grant evaluation. For successful grants, the grant Management Specialist will also provide training on how to administer, track, and report on grant progress.  The Grants Management research specialist will work directly with the IRes program manager and program coordinator and directly engage with community members, partners, and other key stakeholders.
The mission of IRes is to center Indigenous ways of knowing into co-designed environmental solutions and training the next generation of community leaders.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties & responsibilities:

  • Maintain searchable database of potential funding opportunities for tribes from government agencies, private organizations, and foundations related to environmental protection, health and justice, climate justice, and energy justice. This includes identifying relevant funding sources, gathering detailed information about each opportunity, and ensuring the accuracy and completeness of the database.
  • Work with the program coordinator to administer community partners mini-grants, work closely with small community based non-profits, grassroots organizations, and tribal colleges; provide support tracking, developing, and managing grants or other funding mechanisms for effective Grants Management.
  • Assist participants with post-award management for reporting purposes by reviewing and understanding terms and conditions of awarded grants and contracts to ensure strict adherence to funding agency guidelines and regulations.
  • Assist participants in navigating websites, applications, and reimbursements for clean energy projects, even at the individual homeowner level.
  • Assist participants in applying for grants and other funding sources, how to prepare grant applications, create budgets, identify additional partners on the grant and all roles and contributions, procedures for grant evaluation, and performance measurement, and ensure that all required documents and supporting materials are completed and submitted accurately and within deadlines.
  • Additional duties may be assigned.

Knowledge, skills, & abilities:

  • Knowledge of identifying, applying for, and managing funding opportunities regarding environmental or energy justice or related.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally with different groups/individuals in English.
  • Understanding of Tribal Consultation Process. Intellectual curiosity and willingness to learn new skills.
  • Tasks may require investigation of multiple alternatives to support community member requests, requiring some innovation and creativity in consultation with program coordinator and associate director.
  • Ability to work independently and meet desired expectations including all grant deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and excellent skills in time management and documentation of tasks.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required and 1 year of relevant work experience in grant writing.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in grant writing and familiarity with proposal submissions and knowledgeable about current funding opportunities or how to list and track them.
  • Experience working with Tribal community members.
  • Experience with database development and cultural competency in working with tribes.
  • Demonstrated grant writing experience including a number of successful grant applications.
