Reports to Grants Manager, Donor Advised Funds

The Federation is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual with a variety of skill sets who wants to join a team working to build a new model of 21st century and next generation Federation engagement.
ROLE SUMMARY
The Grants Associate will work as part of a team administering Donor Advised Funds: donor-directed charitable giving vehicles established by clients the Federation serves as part of its philanthropy advisory practice. The Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) program contains over 1,100 funds from which approximately 10,000 grants are administered each year. As part of the philanthropy advisory practice, the DAF program is a growing practice, and the person in this position can anticipate professional development opportunities for growth within the organization over time. The Grants Associate will also support the Grants Manager, Donor Advised Funds, and other colleagues to meet donor needs.
ESSENTIAL FUCTIONS
Grants Administration
- Conduct due diligence to ensure that grantmaking complies with federal regulations as well as internal guidelines.
- Process grant recommendations within a Salesforce-based grants management system
- Coordinate the award letter creation and mailing process.
- Communicate with accounting team and grantees, as necessary, regarding fulfillment of grant requests.
Client service and fund management
- Assist DAF advisors and representatives on day-to-day issues regarding all aspects of their funds.
- Perform administrative tasks related to donor requests as necessary.
Technical Support
- Provide technical support for online portal access and utilization.
- Assist with online portal updates, improvements, and communication process.
Database Management
- Maintain and update DAF records as necessary in multiple databases.
- Assist with statement delivery and communication process.
- Work with DAF and accounting teams to establish new funds.
QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES)
- Experience participating in the management of Donor Advised Funds and/or philanthropic operations, systems, and grant programs preferred.
- Exceptional organizational skills.
- Solutions-oriented mindset and problem-solving abilities.
- Knowledge of and appreciation for the Jewish community, its customs and practices.
- Strong interpersonal skills and collaborative team approach.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must have a positive, collegial attitude.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and meet objectives and performance standards.
- Ability/comfort level to work with a broad cross-section of individuals from the community.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite
- This position will require the ability to work in our San Francisco office approximately 2-5 days per week.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution or professional work experience in nonprofit/philanthropic operations or grants administration fields.
- 3-5 years of direct client service experience, in any multifaceted, complex environment.
- Experience working with high-net worth clients preferred.
- Experience in a fast-paced, high-volume institutional setting.
- Experience with Salesforce not required, but nice to have.
