We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Grants Accountant to join our accounting and advisory firm and help us serve our nonprofit clients. This role will be responsible for tracking grant revenue, doing the monthly grant reports, and month-end closing for various nonprofit clients. The ideal candidate is highly organized, proficient in accounting software, and understands bookkeeping principles.
Scope of work
- Recording grants, sponsorships and membership dues in QuickBooks Online
- Recording donations from various donor databases in QuickBooks Online
- Updating grant tracking projects and providing updates to the CFO
- Ensuring expenses are in compliance with grant funds and the proper categorization is applied to the transactions in QuickBooks Online
- Applying the revenue recognition procedure and FASB guidelines to record revenue into restriction and release spent funds out of restriction
- Perform general ledger reconciliation to ensure accuracy of financial data
- Conduct balance sheet and donor database reconciliation to verify transactions and resolve discrepancies
- Maintain accurate records of financial transactions and update accounting software in compliance with GAAP and nonprofit regulations
- Assist in grant budgeting and forecasting processes
- Provide financial analysis and reporting to management as needed
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures
- Support the firm's management and assist with year-end audits and tax preparation
- Attend company-wide meetings
Qualifications:
- Proven experience working with grants accounting
- Strong knowledge of bookkeeping principles and practices
- Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks Online, Asana, Stripe, Keela, GiveEffect, Donorbox, and Network for Good
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Must have three years or more experience working with a nonprofit or an accounting firm handling nonprofit clients
- Must be able to commit to 10-20 hours per week and complete two weeks of mandatory training
