Webster House, a 501c3 nonprofit based in Manchester, New Hampshire, is seeking a
20 hour per week Grant Writer to research, draft, and submit proposals that help our organization secure grant funding to enrich our programs and services, and ultimately, our residents.
The Webster House mission is to provide a safe, supportive home for children who are unable to live at home primarily for reasons of abuse, neglect, or difficulties in the community. Since 1884, we have been providing a second home and second chance for children by offering a secure and structured environment with the primary goal of providing stability to a child’s life while rebuilding self-esteem, confidence, and reestablishing and rebuilding family relationships.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of grant writing best practices, excellent communication skills, compelling and concise writing skills, knowledge of budgets and financial reports, and a proven track record of successfully securing grants from a variety of sources.
The Grant Writer will be responsible for:
Researching grants:
Demonstration of proven methods for identifying grants that match objectives and current funding needs. In addition, the Grant Writer will have the skills and experience to determine which grants are currently not appropriate to pursue.
Writing and submitting proposals:
- Collaborate with Chief Executive Officer to gather information and data necessary for grant proposals, as well as develop grant work plans and opportunities, communicate with constituents and other organizational partners.
- Write clear, concise, and compelling grant proposals that effectively communicate the organization's mission, goals, and programs. This includes letters of interest, cover letters, and supporting documents.
- Collaborate with Chief Executive Officer and Finance Director to develop accurate and realistic budgets for grant proposals.
- Track and maintain an up-to-date record of grant applications and their status, future tasks, and reporting requirements and dates.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills and provide additional information or address questions as they arise.
- Cultivate and sustain relationships with current foundation funders and potential funders.
Skills Required:
- Three to five years experience in grant writing
- Bachelor's degree in relevant field
- Proven experience researching and writing successful grant proposals
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills
- Familiarity with grant writing best practices and current funding trends
- Strong interpersonal skills: comfortable interacting with colleagues, foundations, and donors
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and grant management software
Positionincludes a competitive range of $35-$38/hour.
