The University Advisement Center seeks to hire a Transition Advisor who will be responsible for assisting students in developing a graduation progression plan to facilitate the completion of their degree program in a timely manner. The advisor will be responsible for assisting students who wish to change major, change college or have not been admitted to a GPA restricted program due to not meeting academic requirements, and review a student’s academic achievement goals.
The Advisor is required to have knowledge of all undergraduate and graduate university academic programs, knowledge of academic advisement best practices and the ability to bridge gaps across all academic programs. The successful candidate will have an excellent knowledge of University and Board of Regents academic policies and be able to recommend appropriate course substitutions or adjustments in degree program to Offices of Academic Assistance for processing and approval. The Advisor will serve as liaison to the Office of Academic Assistance in the colleges and should be able to provide leadership and direction on academic decisions related to retention, progression, and graduation. This position is important to increasing our retention and graduation rates and improving the overall progression and degree completion rates of undergraduate students.
The person who is hired for this position will demonstrate the ability to successfully outreach to students. It is also essential that the incumbent have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with individual students as well as to present to large groups in the university community. Knowledge of Data Analysis, SPSS, Microsoft Office, Banner and Crystal Enterprise is also required.

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO
Provide individual advisement sessions to students who wish to change their college or major. Assist students in clarifying academic goals and timetables for degree completion. Review academic record and major selection to evaluate student progression for cohort populations. Offer group advisement sessions on progression issues, process change of college and major forms, and Teach GSU1010 Orientation Course.
· Identify challenges to academic progress and direct students to campus resources to support academic success. Work with financial aid, student support offices in Enrollment Services, Counseling Center and other offices to develop programs designed to overcome or address challenges to student success.
· Serve as a liaison to Financial Aid, Scholarship Office and Student Accounts to provide comprehensive understanding of progression implications of major and college changes. Also collaborate with the Offices of Academic Assistance to coordinate efforts designed to facilitate progression toward degree completion of undergraduate degree and serve as liaison to the University Advisement Center.
· Work with the Assistant Director of Transition to develop programs and practices that will assist academic departments in identifying and correcting departmental challenges to degree completion.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Hiring Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and four year of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.
