Minimum Qualifications
1. Currently admitted to the Graduate School
2. Be in good academic standing
3. Be registered full-time for the respective semester (nine semester credit hours during the fall
semester, nine semester credit hours during spring semester, six semester credit hours during the
summer session(s)), or in the required number of semester credit hours to fulfill the only remaining requirements on the degree plan.
The B3 Institute seeks a Graduate Research Assistant to provide general administrative support, research, and documentation for a grant funded by the U.S. Department of Education for the implementation of the professional development program entitled Historias Americanas: Engaging History and Citizenship in the Rio Grande Valley for Social Studies and History teachers from Edinburg and Brownsville school districts.
PRIMARY DUTIES
*Perform primary and secondary research for Project Director, including annotated bibliographies and documentation for the Historias Americanas program
*Attend meetings and related events
*Communicate and work with project director, program coordinator, UTRGV faculty, staff and other campus personnel, and personnel from Edinburg and Brownsville school districts, as well as Museum of South Texas History personnel
*Assist in the development of promotional materials, such as brochures, maps, newsletters, and videos
*Perform data entry for digital archive
*Assist with other duties as needed
- Must have knowledge of Mexican American Studies, History, Social Studies, Education
*Must have research experience
*Must have knowledge of or experience in archival research, Secondary source research, internet research, etc..
*Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
*Must be able to work independently with little supervision and as part of a team
*Must work well with diverse groups of people Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of or experience in researching topics related to Mexican Americans in the RGV, Texas-Mexico borderlands, including Northern Mexico
*Be bilingual (Spanish/English)
