In the Office of Graduate Fellowshipsand Funding, we have the privilege of working with our graduate community partners to ensure that our funding commitments are met each semester. Our office manages many complex, high-dollar financial accounts; awards graduate recruitment and endowment fellowships; administers the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program; reviews hundreds of external awards for supplementation; and awards thousands of conference and travel grants annually.


About the Position


Reporting to the Director of Fellowships, and in coordination with nearly 100 fields of study, the Fellowship and Funding Specialist will process and maintain accurate, highly detailed records of student financial awards made by the Graduate School, and will maintain a robust business process to ensure graduate students are receiving appropriate awards. The Fellowship and Funding Specialist will process research and travel grant nominations and award postings, and review external fellowships to determine top-off eligibility and calculate awards.


As a function of your daily responsibilities in this role, you will:

  • Process Graduate Fellowships awards on student accounts
  • Coordinate with and advise graduate fields, students, and faculty on graduate funding policy
  • Use the Financial System to assist with the reconciliation and review of unit accounts
  • Prepare time-sensitive budgets, cases, and reports for the director
  • Assist the director to monitor compliance with internal policy and external regulations.

This is a full-time (39 hours/week) endowed position that is based in Ithaca, NY. This position is eligible for a hybrid remote work arrangement. For the ideal candidate, we may be open to more flexibility regarding remote options after a period of training and acclimation. Required Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree and 4-6 years of experience working in higher education and finance, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple, simultaneous priorities and work assignments.
  • Experience performing a variety of job responsibilities in a high-volume and deadline-driven environment
  • Experience providing a high level of customer service, including explaining complex policies in simple, accessible language via email.
  • Demonstrated experience using reasoning skills and sound judgment in identifying and investigating complex procedures and policies, as well as proactively ensuring compliance and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated knowledge or the ability to learn spreadsheets and databases.
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and well-being.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Knowledge of Cornell accounting systems, Cornell student systems, Excel (Pivot tables, power queries, etc.)
  • Experience with Cornell Graduate fellowships and assistantship appointments.
  • Proven ability to analyze/interpret financial data.
