Duties and Responsibilities :

• Meet and consult with department chair/graduate program coordinators and faculty to identify the Clinical Placements required to meet the learning goals of the department.
•Identify, recruit, and tour new clinical/practicum agency student placement sites.
• Establish and maintain relationships with representatives of the agencies in which students are placed through meeting site expectations.
• Review and recommend appropriate agencies that would meet the identified educational requirements for clinical experiences for nursing students in the graduate program.
• Collaborate with agency staff as well as Bowie State University administration and staff to maintain currency in all contractual agreements.
• Identify potential adjunct professors for the Department of Nursing.
• Maintain a list of the approved adjunct clinical faculty and preceptors by clinical specialty for graduate programs.
• Identify potential student learning experiences in clinical/practicum sites (graduate program).
• Use continuous process improvement skills to refine clinical paperwork activities to create a seamless procedure for nursing students and clinical affiliates
• Adhere to and ensure clinical affiliate deadlines are met for required clinical documentation.
• Evaluate and file the clinical logs of students who have individual preceptors in specified clinical courses.
• Communicate with clinical sites through written communications (letters) each semester and as often as necessary.
• Conduct site visits to clinical sites on an annual basis and as needed.
• Attend required meetings at clinical affiliation agencies.
• Update Clinical Placement Logs each semester with all clinical facilities.
• Attend community professional meetings and recruitment job fairs.
• Secure and renew affiliation agreements or Memorandums of Understanding between BSU Department of Nursing and clinical sites.
• Maintain an updated database with specific compliance and/or training requirements for each clinical and/or community facility.
• Clear students in the Centralized Clinical Placement system (Castle Branch) one semester prior to Clinical Placements.
• Review, input information and clear adjunct faculty one semester prior to Clinical Placements.
• Maintain clinical clearance records on students and clinical faculty and submits such completed records upon request to clinical agencies, including CPR verification, health clearances, background checks, resumes, and clinical training modules that may be required.
• Prepare immunization documents for all clinical agencies confirming clinical compliance requirements, if requested.
• Maintain files and all clinical documentation for current students.
• Schedule and notify students and clinical faculty regarding the clinical orientations for each student clinical group each semester, as appropriate.
• Obtain orientation documents for all students entering the clinical setting.
• Distribute to clinical professors and preceptors the student and agency evaluation forms and clinical teaching forms needed.
• Maintain all files related to student clinical assignments.
• Collaborate with site coordinator and clinical professors to evaluate clinical sites.
• Schedule make-up clinical rotations with input from faculty for students, if needed.
• Schedule orientation sessions and meetings with and serves as a resource contact and support person for clinical adjunct and full-time faculty.
• Provide input into the evaluation process of clinical adjunct instructors/preceptors.
• In collaboration with the Department of Nursing Chair/Program Coordinators, manages student Clinical Placement issues as appropriate.
• Coordinate all clinical and site evaluations and manages the databases.
• Any other duties as may be assigned or required.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a related field required. Masters degree preferred.

Experience:

A minimum of four (4) years of clinical experience as a registered nurse preferred.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities :

The Clinical Placement Coordinator must possess the following skills and attributes: management and leadership skills; organizational research skills; strong interpersonal and communication skills; strong clinical and professional skills; licensed and insured to drive a vehicle; ability to interpret learning experience needs of undergraduate and graduate nursing students and match them to the capabilities of Clinical Placement agencies. Must be proficient in computer usage and Microsoft Office suite. Must be able to work independently and autonomously.
