Job description

GENERAL OBJECTIVE

Cedarwood Waldorf School is looking for a dynamic individual to be a Movement Instructor for grades 2-8. Mentoring support is provided for teachers new to Cedarwood and pay is based on experience. Cedarwood is a comprehensive and creative Waldorf pre-k through middle school program that introduces academics in a developmentally thoughtful way. Each student’s imagination is continually nurtured as they develop the capacity to meet the challenges of learning math, language arts, history, geography, science, music, eurythmy, handwork, movement, and two foreign languages, Spanish and Japanese.

  • The Pedagogical Director

HOURS WORKED

  • Full time; exempt; usual hours during the school year are eight hours a day, five days a week, with occasional evenings and weekends. Scheduled hours will depend on program offerings and availability, such as after school/auxiliary programs. This is a year-round position and the fiscal year begins July 1st and ends June 30th.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teaching and student support
  • Plans and evaluates daily classroom activities that are developmentally appropriate and correspond with the goals set for individual children.
  • Brings children of concern to the subject and grades faculty sections for consultation and recommendation.
  • Consults with Educational Support team and makes referrals as needed regarding children with special needs.
  • Works with Pedagogical Director and Educational Support team to create and support Personalized Education Plans (PEP) for individual students, as needed.
  • Models appropriate behavior, dresses professionally, and maintains healthy hygiene at all times.
  • Follows guidelines for substitute coverage as stated in the Employee Handbook.

SPACE USE, SUPPLIES, AND BUDGET

  • Ensures that the classroom environment meets the standards of Waldorf Pedagogy.
  • Keeps gym, performance space, classroom, storage areas, faculty room, and common areas neat and clutter free.
  • Ensures that the class is supplied with all needed materials and supplies.
  • Makes appropriate use of space, equipment, and material storage.
  • Keeps expenses for movement classes within yearly budget. If participating in auxiliary program offerings or break/summer camp offerings, work with Auxiliary Program Coordinator to ensure that expenses are within budget.

ASSESSMENTS, REPORTS, AND COMMUNICATIONS

  • Maintains child behavior observation notes to be used for parent-teacher conferences, year-end reports, and assessment completions.
  • Maintains complete and accurate child files, forms, and reports within allotted timelines to document and track the needs of children and services provided.
  • Communicates with families regarding child behavior, parent education, and events related to movement, such as Olympiad, Track and Field Day, and others
  • Year-end reports for students are to be filed by June 30th or end day of employment.

WORK WITH PARENTS, OUTREACH, AND COMMUNITY BUILDING

  • Sends written information biweekly to grades lesson teachers for parents about class activities and progress. Subject teachers will attend parent meetings as needed.
  • Provides parent education in collaboration with shared faculty agreements on topics related to specific grades, as well as proactive topics.
  • Welcome prospective parents and students visiting class during tours.

HIRING AND SUPERVISION

  • Movement Teacher makes recommendations to Auxiliary Program Coordinator and Pedagogical Director as to hiring of after school program coaches, break camp, and summer camp staffing (paid or volunteer).

SUMMER WORK AND ACCESSIBILITY

  • Assures all training and preparatory work for curriculum and classrooms should be completed by August 15th.
  • Reports to school by August 15th for mandatory in-service and classroom preparation for the first day of school.

SCHOOL PARTICIPATION AND TEAMWORK

  • Arrives at work on time, punctually attends and actively participates in all required meetings and training including committee work.
  • Be a respectful, cooperative, and reliable team member and participant in school activities.
  • Attends faculty, subject, festival, and committee meetings.
  • Participates in open houses, Journey through the Grades, Winter Faire and Three Pillars.
  • Participates in scheduled in-service and enrichment days during the year and at the beginning and end of the school year.
  • Be responsible for daily playground and recess supervision.
  • Adhere to a professional code of conduct.
  • Logs in time-offs and sick leave in Trinet bimonthly.
  • Respect the confidentiality of information about enrolled children and families, personnel issues, and other school operations.

TRAINING

  • Develops own professional work goals and training and mentoring plan in consultation with the Professional Development Committee and Pedagogical Director.
  • Attends February Enrichment Week or submits proposal for alternative professional development.
  • Be aware of, and adhere to, current state and federal laws that affect educators.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Has completed Waldorf Teacher training, continues working towards completion of their training, or has equivalent experience.
  • Has completed Spatial Dynamics Training or is in progress to complete training within the upcoming fiscal year.
  • Able to work cooperatively as a member of a team.
  • Must have a commitment to self-development.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Must have current first aid/CPR training within two months of being hired.

Salary: Starting at $46,500.00 per year depending on education/training and experience
