This is a hybrid opportunity: 3 days remote, 2 days onsite (Arlington, Texas; Irving, Texas; Las Colinas, Texas; Detroit, Michigan)
Responsibilities:
About the Role:

The Global UNIX Systems Engineer III, under the general direction from the Manager, Global UNIX Systems Engineering, will assist in the day-to-day tasks critical to the team's success. This individual will be responsible for attending project meetings when necessary and assist in gathering and documenting infrastructure and security requirements. This individual will also become familiar with all compliance, regulatory and security requirements adhering to all corporate policies and standards. An energetic, solution minded personality with drive, attention to details and excellent communication skills will be needed for success in this position.


JOB DUTIES

  • Uses a broad and deep understanding of technical concepts in multiple specialized fields to develop solutions to problems and critical design issues
  • Direct selected products research and support other technology and evaluation projects; provide technical and operational support in all areas
  • Plan, prioritize, and provide vision on software changes and fixes
  • Identify and evaluate third party vendors, technology, or processes for integration with GM Financial's technology and equipment
  • Study and analyze the performance and capacities of the systems and peripheral equipment/systems and prepares plans for future expansion and upgrades
  • Serve as an escalation point for Level I-II Engineers, mentoring, and training
  • High Level System Administration: Hardware
  • Provides administration - environments require advanced installation and configuration knowledge of various AIX and Linux
  • Solution Building - gather requirements and transform functional and non-functional requirements into solution architectures and solution designs
  • Analyze, draft recommendations, and optimize existing systems
  • Participate in an on-call support rotation for providing after-hours support

Knowledge

  • Ansible
  • Linux and AIX
  • Advanced knowledge in Infrastructure design and management
  • Strong working knowledge of Intel platforms, iSeries and pSeries servers
  • Advanced understanding of IT Service Management (ITSM)
  • Experience with UML Design Tools
  • Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP, OSI model and imp subnetting
  • Advanced knowledge of the OSI model and security that is associated with each layer
  • Understanding of application layer protocols including HTTP, SSH, SSL, and DNS
  • Knowledge of IT security processes and controls as well as IT infrastructure and networking technical knowledge
  • Advanced knowledge of AIX v6 and v7 and HMC’s
  • Advanced knowledge of IBM Network Install Manager (NIM) and IBM Power server hardware
  • Knowledge of Virtual I/O Server design and implementation
  • Knowledge of clustering/high availability solutions (GPFS/PowerHA)
  • Knowledge of Capacity Planning/Performance Tools (Galieo/Sysload)
  • Advanced knowledge of cross platform integration
  • Advanced knowledge of UNIX shell scripting (bash/ksh/Perl)
  • Advanced knowledge of RedHat Enterprise Linux v5, v6 and v7 and RedHat Satellite

Skills

  • Ability to apply structured analysis methods to various types of data to establish trends, determine variability and business impact
  • Experience with alternate management methods using SSH, serial connections, and the command-line interface TMSH
  • Ability to effectively negotiate with vendors on upgrades and acquisitions
  • Expert level IT security processes and controls knowledge as well as IT infrastructure and networking technical knowledge
  • Advanced information security standards/frameworks (ie, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, ISO 27001) skills
  • Advanced experience with Network and VLAN segmentation

Experience and Education

  • Ansible Experience – using Ansible as a programming platform, migrating and automating in Ansible
  • AIX and Linux experience – Linux in the Cloud administration
  • 7-10 years of experience in server support, configuration design and AIX and Linux administration preferred
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent work or military experience preferred
