The Montana State Library (MSL) is seeking applications for a GIS Technician.
We are seeking an individual with knowledge of and a strong interest in GIS data creation, maintenance, and cartographic design, with:

This is a full time, term limited position with funding available from February, 2024 until February, 2026. Term employees are eligible for all applicable state benefits and retirement. The position is located in Helena.
The GIS Technicianis responsible for supporting MSL's data development, information-sharing, and statewide coordination and collaboration missions through the efficient and responsible management of the Montana Spatial Data Infrastructure, the Natural Resources Information System, the Water Information System and data discovery tools, and by providing geospatial information support and services. This position is part of a team that includes other GIS Technicians, Specialists, Analysts, and Leads.
Primary Responsibilities include:
Create, manage, and maintain GIS layers and associated metadata and tabular data using a relational database system (RDBMS).
Use cartographic design principles, spatial analysis procedures, statistical analysis, and GIS software to create maps, reports, and other geospatial data products.
Conduct methods of quality assurance and quality control of GIS data.
Provide support for statewide geospatial coordination, outreach, communication, technical support, and training for MSL's GIS data services and applications.
The Minimum Qualifications for this position are an associate degree or certificate in Information Technology, GIS, or a related field, and two years of work experience maintaining GIS data. Other combinations of education, certification, or experience that could provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Geography, Geology, Geographic Information Systems, Natural Resources, or a related field. Previous experience utilizing GIS tools, such as ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
