Job Description
Metcalf Archaeological Consultants, Inc. is seeking a GIS Technician to work from one of our offices, preference will be given to candidates who can work from our Bismarck, ND office. Experience creating maps and understanding of GIS practices as well as the ability to work independently with effective time and task management are essential for this position. This position is full-time, regular, and eligible for all benefits provided by Metcalf (health insurance, 401k plan, paid time off, Employee Stock Ownership Plan) with an hourly wage that ranges from $20.00 to $24.00 per, depending on experience. This position is also eligible for a flexible schedule and remote work.
The primary responsibilities of the GIS Technician include working with project staff to produce maps and data relational maps using GIS software, hardware, and applications. Maps will often be included in professional reports.

- B.A. or B.S. in Geography or a related field
- B.A. or B.S. in Anthropology is also acceptable with extensive experience in GIS applications
- At least 2 years of experience performing GIS operations for an organization
- Thorough understanding of GIS practices as applied in a real-world setting where field data must be integrated with available GIS layers
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in GIS Software particularly with ArcGIS and ArcGIS Online
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Demonstrated ability to utilize GIS software to effectively perform map-based analyses and present data in a clear, organized, and legible format
- Proficiency in working with ESRI software including ArcGIS products
- Ability to work collaboratively with other GIS staff to design and implement project specific GIS protocols
