More and more municipalities understand the importance of knowing where their assets are located – from streets to sidewalks/curb ramps, and stormwater utilities. Performing those inventories, assessing the data, and teaching municipalities how to access this information on web-based platforms has become a key service offering from BETA.
The GIS Specialistwill support ongoing field data collection, data development, spatial analysis, and cartographic output for municipal, utility, and environmental projects. Minimum requirements are 1 - 2 years of GIS experience with BA/BS degree from an accredited College or University in Geography, Geology, Planning, Engineering, or related field, with additional training in the operation of GIS software, GPS software, and MS Access software applications.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the collection of field data, asset inspections and field measurements including but not limited to roadway, sidewalk/curb ramps, and drainage assets
- Assist with data editing tasks under the direction of a project manager
- Assist in developing geographic database structures, tables, forms and reports
- Develop high quality cartographic mapping and reports
- Work cooperatively with other office staff and/or Project Managers to complete assigned work
Skills Required:
- Solid understanding of technical application, concepts, principals, and theories in GIS
- Experience with ESRI GIS technology (ArcGIS Online, ArcMap, and ArcGIS Pro)
- Working knowledge of using MS Access, and GPS equipment
- Proficient with current technology (i.e. tablets, smart phones, laptops, etc..)
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong problem solving skills
- High attention to detail
- Exposure to ArcGIS Online; creating and publishing map services
- Experience with GIS programming/web development is a plus
Preferred Education and Experience:
- 1 to 2 years of professional experience with ESRI’s ArcGIS Desktop (10.x and/or Pro) is required
- Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Planning, Engineering, Environmental Resources, or a related field
- Valid driver’s license is a must
