Nature of Work
Under general supervision, the position assists with the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of the utility’s Geographic Information System (GIS). The position is responsible for working with various types of files, updating and transferring geographical data, preparing maps, programs, sketches and related graphical media. Exercises judgment in accordance with well-defined policies and procedures.

- Performs field inspections of infrastructure and project sites for verification of field data.
- Transfers data from/to aerial photographs and/or other geographic information systems (GIS).
- Updates project tracking documentation used to monitor projects and time spent completing projects.
- Plots field data onto maps, charts, and other graphic materials.
- Operates scanners, plotters, and printers; maintains files and records of completed plans and documents.
- Performs extensive research to obtain the most reliable and current data available for updating GIS databases.
- Enters new data, changes and/or transfers into the ESRI based GIS system. Edits and updates GIS database from information delivered by inspectors and engineering consultants.
- Prepares monthly GIS project progress reports, utility summary reports or other reports as requested.
- Creates custom maps and exhibits for BSU departments.
- Assists all personnel with accepting and using technology to aid with their daily tasks.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Knowledge of Thorough knowledge of standard terminology, techniques, and practices in ArcGIS.
- Knowledge of Computer equipment, graphic media, and associated peripheral equipment utilized in maintaining and processing drafting and/or geographical data.
- Knowledge of GIS drafting equipment, drafting media, lettering equipment, and computer-aided drafting and design equipment.
- Knowledge of Graphic enhancement software and programs such as PowerPoint, Paint Shop Pro, Arc Map, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, and ArcGIS Online
- Knowledge of COGO tools, spatial adjustments, geo referencing, versioned geodatabase environment.
- Knowledge of GPS systems.
- Knowledge of CCTV software.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
Skill in:
- Skill in Use of drafting instruments, computers, and associated peripheral electronic equipment.
- Skill in Navigating through network(s) to maintain logical/easy drawing/project retrieval.
- Skill in Research methodology.
- Skill in Organizing and prioritizing.
- Skill in Staying current with new and changing technology.

Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Associate degree with major coursework in computer science; GIS, computer aided drafting design (CADD), or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training.
