Responsibilities:

What you'll be challenged to do:
Whitney, Bailey, Cox & Magnani, LLC, now a division of TranSystems, is excited to announce we are actively searching for a GIS Database Administrator to join our award-winning team.

Primary Responsibilities (others may be assigned):

  • Perform DBA responsibilities for production, test and development Oracle databases version 19c.
  • Install and upgrade Oracle, applying quarterly Oracle Critical Patch Updates (CPUs).
  • Monitor server disk space usage and automated OEM jobs, RMAN backup reports and logs and export log files.
  • Create and modify automated Recovery Manager (RMAN) database backups in OEM, datapump exports, and PL/SQL procedures, DOS .bat files and other various programs.
  • Monitor database performance using OEM grid control13c, Quest TOAD, Quest Spotlight on Oracle and SQL Developer.
  • Perform database performance tuning that includes tuning developers SQL programs and providing alternative SQL statements that result in improved performance.
  • Using tuning tools such as Quest SQL Optimizer, TOAD, Oracle performance Tuning and Diagnostic Pack, applying recommended SQL Profiles, applying Oracle optimizing hints and creating indexes on appropriate columns.
  • Maintain, create and schedule automated database full and incremental Recovery Manager (RMAN) backups in OEM13c. Candidate needs to have proven experience in Oracle RMAN features, RMAN parameters and commands and the ability to create ad hoc database backups and restores and perform Point In Time (PIT) recoveries. At present, the databases range in size from approximately 15 GB to 3TB.
  • Create and maintain Oracle datapump exports and metadata exports and scheduled them to run in OEM13c. Must also perform user requested datapump exports manually as needed as well as datapump imports.
  • Maintain Database Disaster Recovery Procedures.
  • Create and maintain documentation for restoring RMAN backups, applying CPUs, upgrading databases, various PL/SQL procedures, and regular ArcGIS-related procedures.
  • Develop database user requested ERD diagrams and workflows using SQL Developer Data Modeler or TOAD Modeler.
  • Assist developers in resolving ESRI GIS problems and errors.
  • Assist developers in query tuning and problem resolution. This includes applying appropriate indexes, implementing Oracle SGL Profiles, using Oracle Hints and providing alternative SQL statements to improve SQL performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database issues and errors by reviewing database alert.log files and trace files.
  • Create and review log files for automated monthly RMAN validations on backups to ensure they are valid for restoring.
  • Create, assign and maintain database user accounts, roles, grants and privileges.
  • Reconcile, post and compress geodatabases on a daily basis, troubleshooting issues as they arise.
  • Create, delete, consolidate events in Esri Roads and Highways
  • Maintain data and data integrity in geodatabases, scripting updates and providing backups to file geodatabases where appropriate.
  • Create scripts to geolocate data in appropriate projections for incorporation into existing spatial tables.
  • Initiate, support and maintain versioning (both branch and traditional/hierarchical) on spatial databases.

Qualifications:
What you bring to our firm:

  • B.S. degree in computer science or related field
  • 8 years of experience in business process re-engineering
  • 6 years of experience managing, installing, and upgrading and Oracle database environment
  • 5 years of experience in reengineering large scale business processes
  • 5 years of experience with Esri ArcGIS Server
  • 5 years of experience deploying applications that utilize Oracle Connection Manager
  • 3 years of experience with Esri Roads and Highways
  • 3 years of experience creating RMAN scripts for backing up data
  • 3 years of experience with Commvault backup and recovery systems or similar
  • 3 years of experience with database tuning and capacity planning
  • 3 years of experience with database backups and recovery
  • 3 years of experience with Windows Server Datacenter 2016
  • 3 years of experience with OEM tools (13c) and Oracle Grid Management Server
  • 3 years of experience working with TCP/IP and DNS
  • 3 years of experience with Oracle 19c or higher and their management packs
  • 3 years of experience in applying Oracle quarterly Critical Patch Updates (CPU’s) and other patches as needed and required

What we’d prefer for you to bring to our firm:

  • DoT (Department of Transportation)
  • Familiarity with Esri’s ArcGIS Catalog (through ArcGIS Pro or Desktop)
  • Solid knowledge of both database and system performance tuning using Spotlight, TOAD, SQL Optimizer Tuner, Oracle Enterprise Manager Performance Tuning Pack, etc.
  • Installation, configuration and upgrading of Oracle server software and related products.
  • Installation, configuration, and support of Esri ArcGIS Server / ArcSDE and related products in a geodatabase setting.
  • Oracle Connection Manager (supporting public facing applications)
  • Windows and Unix experience


Working Conditions:
An inside office environment when at Client's office. Lifting: 10-20 lbs. Occasional overtime required.
