Form of workAssist in the design of data-driven projects. Utilize computer programs and software (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server, Access, Excel and other database and spreadsheet software) to extract, validate and analyze data. Develops responses to customer data inquiries, determines trends and makes recommendations based on results.
Develop and deliver GIS (Geographical Information Systems) mapping to management for sharing with internal and external partners. Ability to produce mapping to specific standards utilizing data gathered from various database and geo-database applications. Ability to repeatedly adhere to said standards. Assist in the creation of GIS metadata and Data dictionary elements.
Prepare written data and technical reports. Create reports and documents utilized to assist customers in the Project Delivery process. Deliverables may include written data, GIS or other visual representations of findings.
Provide training and support. Document and detail all tools and processes developed to create curriculum which will be used in training given by the incumbent and others.
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Research Data Analyst II Exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g. transfer, permissive reinstatement or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions.. This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans's evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required and reimbursement considers an employee's designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

Working Conditions
Position located in Fresno, Fresno County.
The incumbent will spend the majority of their time working in an office environment with artificial lighting and climate-controlled temperature. Travel to outlying offices will be in state vehicles unless other prior arrangements are made. Vacation and other leave my be restricted during peak work times.
New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
