The role you'll contribute:
Performs various patient care activities in the GI Lab/Minor Procedure department under the supervision of a physician and nurse. Assists physicians and nurses with cases and daily functions of the department. May assist with medical procedures. Ensures that all equipment is clean and functioning properly. Prepares room for procedures.
The value you'll bring to the team:
- Uses physician preference card to identify supplies and equipment needed for the scheduled procedure. Submits updates to preference cards with any necessary changes.
- Accepts room assignment as directed by the supervising RN which includes assisting the physician with all procedures scheduled for that room (i.e., Flexible Sigmoidoscopy, EGD, Colonoscopy, Peg Placement, Liver Biopsy, ERCP and Minor Procedures).
- Under the supervision of a Physician or Registered Nurse, observe patients during recovery for potential problems that require intervention. Reports the problem to the appropriate person(s).
- Takes vital signs on patients and documents as needed.
- Assists the Registered Nurse with procedures that require two or more people.
- Assists RN with patient and family education. Explains procedures using pamphlets and diagrams. Contacts Registered Nurse or Physician if further patient/family education is needed.
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed :
Required:
- High School Diploma OR GED
- One year of related experience
- Basic computer skills
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association
Preferred:
- Trade: Completion of a medical/clinical vocational training or certification.
- License/Certification: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Medical Assistant (MA) etc.
