Geotechnical Assistant Project Engineer
BizFirst is assisting our client with recruiting a Full-time, Direct Hire Geotechnical Assistant Project Engineer working out of South Plainfield, NJ, and supporting projects primarily in NJ but with occasional travel throughout the tri-state area. Our client is a medium-sized, fast-growing consulting engineering and construction management firm with large programs in the public sector and enterprise markets.
What you will do
The Geotechnical Assistant Project Engineer is responsible for the management of clients and projects, supervising the preparation of geotechnical engineering reports, geotechnical engineering calculations, and special inspections in support of: borings, test pits, earth retaining structures (temporary and permanent), soil and rock inspection, deep/shallow foundations, construction plan and specification adherence, and field coordination with subconsultants.
Responsibilities:
- B.S. in Civil, Geotechnical, or related engineering degree
- Engineer-In-Training working towards obtaining a Professional Engineering license (P.E.)
- 4+ years of experience
- Proficiency in design software tools including Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD
- Proficiency with gINT geotechnical engineering software
- Proficiency in LRFD/ASD design and complex analysis software including RISA, DeepXcav, and AllPile
- Experience in analysis of below grade walls, retaining structures, and foundations
- Experience in conducting geotechnical and construction special inspections
- Ability to communicate effectively with managers, clients, and contractors
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as strong design skills
- Valid driver’s license and reliable means of transportation
- Undergo a background check (required)
Preferences:
- M.S. in Civil, Geotechnical, or related engineering degree
- P.E. License
- Project management experience is a plus
Physical Requirements:
- Continually required to stand, walk, and sit
- Continually required to utilize hand and finger dexterity
- Continually required to talk or hear
- Continually utilize visual acuity to operate office and field equipment
- Exposed to outside weather conditions when on project sites
- Occasionally required to bend, stoop, and kneel
- Occasionally required to lift and carry items less than 25 pounds

Work Location:
· Homed out of the South Plainfield office but expected to work in the Tri-state area
