The Americas Digital, Data, and Geospatial team is a group of data specialists, geospatial authorities, software developers, designers, and digital consultants. We use our collective talents to deliver technology-led solutions to clients. In collaboration with domain experts from across our firm, we develop and deploy digital tools to enhance design and analysis. The team operates as a catalyst for automation across Arup, using sophisticated software tools, cloud-based web applications, novel automation workflows, geospatial tools and approaches, machine learning, and more to advance the design and delivery of airports, rail networks, urban infrastructure, bridges, tunnels, skyscrapers, and other key aspects of the built environment. Our team members are engaged in the full project lifecycle to deliver digital solutions, as well as leading forward-looking research and development to define the next generation of digital tools and approaches for our industry. 

Role: 

We are seeking a Geospatial Analyst to join our team, with the primary location based in San Francisco. We are open to considering exceptional candidates in Oakland or Los Angeles who possess the skills and expertise to excel in this role. The candidate will join our regional team and collaborate closely with consultants, planners, and engineers to design efficient and automated geospatial workflows. 

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, an excellent problem solver, able to adapt to new technologies and platforms, and able to articulate complex digital solutions to people of other backgrounds. We are looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, adept at managing tasks within specified timelines and budget constraints with ease and efficiency.  

Responsibilities of this specific role will include, but not be limited to the following:  

  • Provide geospatial support on projects across the Americas 
  • Advise on geospatial standard processes 
  • Build and maintain GIS databases to store project data 
  • Advise on data management and interoperability approaches and standard processes, and deploy and maintain solutions on projects 
  • Develop analytical solutions to support sustainability, planning, and infrastructure projects 
  • Work with internal technical and domain experts to design and implement geospatial solutions 
  • Work with project teams to understand requirements and design solutions to support project delivery 
  • Recommend integrated data dissemination and visualization solutions 
  • Advise on data collection approaches and best practices 
  • Presentation and documentation of solutions to non-technical audiences 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in GIS or a related field 
  • Minimum 3 years experience providing geospatial solutions
  • Expertise in desktop GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro
  • Experience of data management and interoperability standard processes in the built environment (e.g. FME, ProjectWise, Autodesk Construction Cloud, CAD/BIM packages) 
  • Excellent planning and organization skills required for our fast-paced environment
  • Must be eager to learn, highly motivated, proactive and willing to take on new challenges 

Preferred: 

  • Experience working with enterprise GIS solutions (ArcGIS Enterprise or open-source solutions) 
  • Experience with web-based GIS (e.g. ArcGIS Online, HTML, CSS, Leaflet, PostGIS) 
  • Cartographic or 3D visualization experience 
  • Experience and interest in applying spatial solutions to complex engineering problems 
  • Proven ability to perform in a deadline-driven environment 
  • Past history of technical presentations and technical writing

San Francisco Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in San Francisco is $77,300 to $92,500 per year. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of San Francisco will differ.
