Summary of Job
The City of Sheboygan is looking for a GIS Intern to join our engineering team at the
Department of Public Works. In this position, the intern will work on-site to assist the GIS Specialist in managing, updating, and maintaining the Enterprise Geodatabase, editing existing spatial data, and developing new spatial datasets. This position will require collaboration and cooperation among different user groups and users with varying GIS skill levels. Your technical proficiency, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills will play a key role in the success of the City's geospatial initiatives.
Responsibilities
• Assist in GIS data development, data conversion, data maintenance, GPS data collection, spatial analysis, web map creation and cartographic map production
• Assist in the mapping projects by georeferencing scanned sheets, entering attribute information, and creating features
• GIS Intern will also support our internal engineering and management team related to special projects
• Assist in the creation and maintenance of GIS data utilizing Esri ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Portal
• Assist with field collection projects utilizing Field Maps and Survey123, ensuring data integrity and accuracy
• Assist in the creation of various GIS Web Applications and Dashboards
• Entering and updating data and layers for publicly available and internal datasets
• Intern will work with the GIS Specialist to gain experience with Enterprise geodatabase management, server maintenance, complying with data standards, and updating existing databases
• Take advantage of learning opportunities to enhance GIS skills and knowledge
Education & Experience
Individual must be currently enrolled or recently graduated in an college degree program for Geography, Cartography, GIS, or another related field. Individual must have introductory experience (1 year) with Geographic Information Systems, cartographic principles, and Esri technology.
Any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered
Qualifications & Skills
• Understanding of ESRI ArcGIS software (Pro, Online) and field applications (Field Maps, Survey123)
• Willingness to learn and apply GIS concepts to practical scenarios
• Interest in working with geospatial data, including data quality assurance, analysis, and interpretation
• Meticulous attention to detail in data entry and map creation
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and effectively communicate technology concepts to non-technical peers
• Ability to work outdoors, on foot, to collect data using a mobile device
• A Valid State Motor Vehicle Operator's License
