Generator Technician | Hybrid Role with Guaranteed 40-Hr pay
LOCATION: Need to be near a major airport in the United States or (ideally) Houston, TX. See travel locations below
GUARANTEED 40-HRS A WEEK!!
COMPENSATION: $25 - $29 per hour PLUS per diem when traveling
POSITION SUMMARY:
Seeking a Generator Technician to support our team with various projects in multiple locations. The ideal candidate must possess the ability to perform a variety of skilled tasks in maintaining, repairing, and modifying diesel electric generating equipment. Work includes servicing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engine driven electric generators and related equipment. Work is performed with considerable independence within established policies, procedures, and technical guidelines, and is reviewed by a superior through conferences, reports, and results obtained.
REMOTE WHEN NOT TRAVELING 25 - 50%
TRAVEL: 50 - 75% travel to Temple, TX; Waco, TX; New Orleans, LA; Columbia, SC; Des Moines, IA; and Murphysboro, TN. Travel expenses (airfare, lodging, meals, etc.) are covered.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Transcribe complete repairs and service on power generating systems (750-2,000kw), motors, electronic controls, programmable logic circuits (PLCs), graphical user interfaces (GUIs), and high voltage producing equipment from manufacturers like Caterpillar, Cummins, Generac, Trane, Kohler, Carrier, etc.
- Acquire parts, labor, and materials necessary to complete repairs, service, and maintenance.
- Transport equipment, tools, and fluids to and from work sites; operate and maintain equipment, tools and safety devices which are designed to lift, move, transport, repair, inspect, measure, or protect.
- Obtain approval and paperwork for maintenance with proper personnel.
- Schedule and coordinate any required maintenance with proper personnel.
- Perform any and all inspections and maintenance during performance of Preventive Maintenance (PM) per the manufacturer's standards and in accordance with the standard operating procedures.
- Provide the required coordination, supervision, and inspection for load bank testing.
- Make modifications to diesel generator systems, including installation of pre-heaters; battery chargers; fuel systems and other related diesel parts.
- Make wiring modifications to diesel control circuits and electrical apparatus specific to the diesel standby system.
- Investigate, diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair diesel standby and transfer switch system problems.
- Perform preventive maintenance including checking for leaks, worn parts, taking oil samples; order and install replacement parts; adjust, calibrate, and inspect the operation of auto transfer switch equipment.
- Prepare records of repairs, maintenance, parts ordered, and parts used.
- Document modifications to system.
- Clearly explain the scope of work requirements of generator preventative maintenance contracts to upper management per the manufacturer's standards and in accordance with the contract requirements.
- Promptly coordinate responses to emergency service calls.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and report any issues that arise.
- Collaborate with business development on various tasks.
- Stay up to date on new generators' requirements and procedures.
REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in generator preventative maintenance.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience with units rated 500kWs (bare minimum) - 1500 kWs or higher.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working in compliance with NFPA 110.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Good understanding of mechanical and electrical systems in a large facility.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Physical ability to perform all necessary job responsibilities.
- Ability to work independently.
EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or GED.
- 30-Hour OSHA Certification.
- Valid driver's license.
