This position serves the entire country and is a high profile role which will deal with multi-million dollar claims and action plans.
This is a company-car eligible, work-from-home position. The selected individual can work anywhere within the US. The ideal candidate location would be within the Midwest region.
The ideal candidate will have the following:
  • Five or more years of claims experience handling large losses

  • Strong customer service and conflict resolution competency
  • Excellent organization and adaptability
  • High achiever in a remote environment
  • Able to successfully perform work 100% independently
Ability to operate various claims systems, related software and Xactimate (software tool used for estimates) are required.

Job Description Summary

Our Private Client team operates as a niche, stand-alone business, supported by the scale and resources of the entire Nationwide enterprise. As a General Claims Adjuster, you'll handle large Personal Lines property losses (structure and contents) from $250K to $5M while maintaining high member engagement. These losses will be high exposure, complex, coverage-laden and will involve high profile and high net worth customers.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
  • Participates in complex litigated and non-litigated claims and provides technical assistance and consultation to state/regional leaders and claim associates
  • Conducts onsite field investigations and field re-inspections of large exposure Personal Lines claims and coordinates rebuilding of damages with contractors, various trades and architects.
  • Maintains current knowledge of assigned insurance lines court decisions which may impact the claims function, current guidelines and policy changes and modifications. This may require attending various seminars or training sessions.
  • Mentors field claims associates to develop their technical and building knowledge and may provide advice, counsel or formal training.
  • Participates in catastrophe (CAT) events as requested by the Technical and or Field Office.
  • Visits top third tier agents to market claims capabilities.
  • Delivers outstanding customer service experience to all internal, external, current and prospective Nationwide customers.
  • Adheres to high standards of professional conduct while providing the delivery of superior claims service support.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to Associate Vice President, Private Client Claims
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Undergraduate degree or post-graduate studies preferred.
License/Certification/Designation: State licensing where required. Successful completion of required/applicable claims certification training/classes.
Experience: Five or more years of claims experience handling large losses. Field management experience preferred.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Requires superior knowledge of Personal Lines insurance operations, field and staff functions, industry trends, and project management. Confirmed superior knowledge of best claims practices used to resolve the most serious, large and complex personal Property Claims. Demonstrated knowledge of insurance contracts, familiarity with court proceedings affecting legal liability for all lines of insurance, knowledge of claims systems and evaluation of contents are required. Strong knowledge of home construction, building materials and repair processes. Comprehension of fine arts and jewelry loss management.
Must have exceptional customer service skills. Proven ability to meet customer needs and provide outstanding service by informing customers of the claims process, setting service expectations from the beginning of the loss through the conclusion, while ensuring a positive customer experience. Demonstrated decision-making and analytical skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with field leadership, staff management, legal and other departments. Ability to operate various claims systems, related software and Xactimate (software tool used for estimates) are required.
Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and HR Business Partner.

Job Conditions:
Overtime Eligibility: Not Eligible (Exempt)
Working Conditions: Normal office or field claims environment. May require ability to sit and use phone and personal computer for extended periods of time. Representatives must be able to make physical inspections of accident scenes and property loss sites outdoors, climb ladders, balance at various heights, stoop, bend and/or crawl to inspect vehicles and structures regardless of weather conditions. Must be able and willing to work irregular hours (may be on-call) and to travel with possible overnight requirements. Must be available to work catastrophes (CAT). Must have a valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record in accordance with Nationwide standards.

If a Sales job, Sales Incentives, based on performance goals are possible in addition to this range. The national salary range for General Property Claims Adjuster - Personal Lines : $93,000.00-$192,000.00 The expected starting salary range for General Property Claims Adjuster - Personal Lines : $103,000.00 - $155,000.00
