Your Opportunity
Responsibilities include but not limited to overseeing the various building and remodeling projects that occur in Smithfield Hog Production. Duties will include acquiring bids for review, putting together capital requests, managing projects to stay within budget for the Region locations. Individual will also manage the maintenance group for the region including coordinating daily activities to ensure those farms are maintained while adhering to budget. Individual will be responsible for organizing capital projects for annual budgeting process. Individual will oversee other special projects as the opportunity presents itself.
Core Responsibilities

  • Follow the safety requirement of the Smithfield Injury Prevention System (SIPS).
  • Maintain facilities by coordinating efforts of company and contract staff with a major emphasis on adhering to strict biosecurity policies.
  • Responsible for identifying ways to improve Sow farms, Nursery farms, Finishing farms and Boar Studs (when apply) from a maintenance perspective while operating within a predetermined budget.
  • Implements and manages biosecurity at the site using BMS manual to minimize risk of disease introduction.
  • Ensures that all vendors and suppliers are held accountable for cost of services, quality of workmanship, product reliability, and agreed warranties.
  • Directs and coaches local maintenance personnel to ensure constancy of purpose, effectiveness of the maintenance programs, and focus of continuous improvement.
  • Communicates all changes and recommendations in methods and practices to support staff and operations managers.
  • Monitors maintenance methods, cost, and performance data for the region.
  • Ensures that cost-containing measures and efficient methods of maintenance are developed and implemented.
  • Ensures that the providers of any service related to the repair, maintenance, or retrofitting of existing facilities are meeting the objectives, standards, and initiatives of the region.
  • Manages financial performance by controlling costs, budgeting, business and financial planning, and tracking financial activity via P&L review with regards to repairs and maintenance.
  • Communicates with farm managers, production specialist, and/or operations manager with regards to potential projects or normal repairs.
  • Oversees and administers all Human Resources/employee relations functions relating to such as compensation, records, vacation, performance reviews, etc.
  • Ensures that the working environment is safe, by providing safety equipment, training, and actions to prevent hazardous conditions by meeting Smithfield Foods SIPS standards.
  • Performs all other activities and responsibilities as defined by management.
  • Responsible for being in compliance with all environmental laws and procedures to which Smithfield Hog Production subscribes.
  • Incumbent will be responsible for understanding and complying with company SIPS, EMS and BMS policies and procedures while performing their job duties.
  • Report all environmental issues immediately to their supervisor.
  • Read and understand the company's emergency notification process and will be responsible for reviewing that policy at their work site.

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in related field and 5+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership is required.
  • Valid Driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to prepare routine reports and correspondence Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent organization skills.
  • Computer skills (Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook).
  • Must be available for regular travel.
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends when necessary.
  • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to be respectful, approachable, and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Provides leadership and guidance to employees in the Maintenance Department.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and assisting in providing appropriate resolutions.
