About the role
The ideal candidate is a highly qualified and experienced legal expert, who plays a crucial leadership role in managing the company’s legal resources. The General Counsel reports to the CEO and sits on the executive team providing strategic legal guidance to all stakeholders in the business, manages risks and ensures compliance with laws and regulations that apply to our organization and industry.
Responsibilities
- Develop legal strategies that align with the company's overall business objectives
- Provide proactive legal advice and guidance on a wide range of issues, domestically and internationally, including contracts, intellectual property, employment law, and regulatory compliance
- Identify and assess legal risks associated with business activities and provide solutions to mitigate such risks
- Implement risk management policies and procedures to protect the company's interests
- Oversee the drafting, negotiation, and review of contracts, ensuring that they meet legal requirements and align with the company's goals
- Collaborate with a network of global experts to streamline contract processes and enhance efficiency
- Advise the Executive team on governance best practices
- Stay current on relevant laws and regulations affecting data collection of employee activities
- Maintain our terms of service, EULA, and other public-facing documents to meet changing legal requirements align with the company’s goals
- Manage external legal resources
- Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities for team members
- Provide guidance on marketing initiatives that mention the legality of our services
- Manage company’s IP portfolio.
- Advise on labor and employment issues
- Attend and become an active participant at relevant industry events
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from a top-tier accredited law school and active admission to a US State Bar
- Previous experience in a large law firm and/or corporation
- Extensive experience in at least two of the following: corporate law, contracts, regulatory compliance, privacy (domestic and international), Artificial Intelligence, data protection, intellectual property
- Proven leadership experience within a Legal department, ideally in SaaS environments
- Experience servicing international businesses and interacting with international clients
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of an organization.
