Student Academic Success Services at East Carolina University provides academic support services for ECU students. The Student Academic Success Services office oversees university academic support services, special populations grants and programs, early alert and success communications systems, and ECU's centralized learning center.
The Gear Up NC Success Coach will work with East Carolina University and Gear Up NC to support first-year college students from target high schools.
This position is assigned to Student Academic Success Services ( SASS) office at East Carolina University and is a part of Academic Affairs. The Gear Up NC Success Coach will report to the Executive Director of Student Academic Success Services and is a member of the Student Academic Success Services leadership team.
The Gear UP NC Success Coach will provide high-quality, high-touch coaching, providing accountability, and facilitating successful personal development. The GEAR UP Success Coach will encourage interest in postsecondary education and build support for student success.
This position will travel in the performance of duties.
Job Duties
Duties and responsibilities of the position include abut are not limited to the following:

Student Outreach - 20%
Represent GearUp at middle and high schools and other functions to encourage interest and enrollment of students at ECU and build support for student success. Help schedule, plan, and conduct campus tours for GearUp students and parents. Maintain communication with GearUp students throughout the enrollment process.
Represent ECU at statewide GearUp NC Grant events - 10%
Attend and participate in GearUp NC meetings, trainings, and Inside Track training sessions as well as travel for GearUp NC events. Provide accurate and direct feedback to Access & Success Manager to receive assistance and foster continuous improvement.
Success Coaching with enrolled ECU students - 35%
Coach students on developing a plan to achieve their academic success and career goals by assessing values/goals, needs, and obstacles. Contact and schedule coaching sessions with enrolled students.
Maintain data and student outcomes - 15%
Manage confidential information and provide accurate student information in the contact management system(s). Use online programs, such as uCoach, to assist in accountability documentation and to provide student services. Project, assess, and report on student likelihood to retain.
Instruct COAD 1000 - 10%
Serve as primary instructor for ECU's freshman seminar for GearUp NC enrolled students.
Other duties as assigned - 10%
Contribute as both an individual coach and Student Academic Success Services team member to further GearUp and the East Carolina University's student success initiatives, mission, and goals.
This position is contingent upon available funding.
Minimum Education/Experience
  • Master's degree; or bachelor's degree plus two years of relevant experience
  • Experience working with high school and/or college age students
  • Demonstrated knowledge of college services including financial aid and degree completion activities
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Experience in exercising independent judgment and showing strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
