The PPL is seeking a Gardener - U2 to perform skilled maintenance of parks, gardens, nurseries, and other landscaped areas. The role entails applying herbicides and insecticides, as well as soil mixing, planting, transplanting, fertilizing, irrigating, cultivating, and pruning trees, shrubs, and plants.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
Knowledge of:
- Trees, plants, and shrubs indigenous to Arizona and their care.
- Calsence sprinkler operating systems.
SALARY
Pay Range: $17.72 to $31.82 per hour.
Hiring Range: $17.72 to $21.54 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- One year of experience in the care and maintenance of trees, plants, shrubs, and lawns.
- Follow oral and written instructions.
- Read and understand herbicide and insecticide warning labels and mix/apply them in accordance with safety standards.
- Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

- Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
- Moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds may be required.
- Requires walking for prolonged periods which may include walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces.
- Requires working outside in a variety of environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust.
- Landscape and gardening maintenance techniques and equipment.
- Herbicides, insecticides, fertilizers, soil amendments, and irrigation systems.
- Operating small to medium sized motorized equipment.
- Planting, irrigating, cultivating, fertilizing, and weeding gardens.
- Soil mixing, transplanting seedlings, tree staking, and creating cuttings.
- Hedge trimming.
- Landscape design.
- Microsoft Word and Excel.
