Work Schedule: 17.5 hours per week, Temporary, Part Time

Pay Type: $22 Hourly

Exemption Status: Non-Exempt

Program Overview:

Our Athletics & Community Enrichment Services program here at Henry Street Settlement provides a safe, structured, and holistic environment within our programs, which educates, empowers, and promotes social and emotional development. Our goal is for young people and their families to become confident, compassionate, and progressive leaders within the global community. This new program was created out of the need to increase athletic and enrichment activities to engage young people and create new opportunities for their growth and development.

Job Summary:

The Media Specialist plays a pivotal role in enhancing our sports leagues visibility and engagement by managing live streaming, commentating, and overseeing media-related activities. This position is responsible for ensuring seamless live streams, accurate scorekeeping, timely communication of events, and the overall maintenance of equipment.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.
  • Previous experience in a similar role, preferably in a youth-oriented setting
  • Proficiency in various games such as pool, ping pong, chess, checkers, and video game consoles
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent conflict resolution and conflict prevention skills
  • Excellent motivational skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to show up on time to work and other events. 
  • Professional attire and demeanor
  • Strong professionalism with the ability to take on multiple responsibilities, be flexible, and possess a positive team-oriented attitude.
  • Strong understanding of the athletics program model with the ability to enforce program expectations and department policies.
  • Self-motivated, ability to work efficiently and effectively under pressure.
  • The ability to hold youth accountable for being good sportsmen.
  • Knowledge and experience in youth development
  • Ability to work with participants from a variety of academic backgrounds and skill levels.
  • Excellent computer administrative skills including data-based attendance collection, meeting reporting deadlines and guidelines.
  • Thorough understanding of strength-based approaches to youth development
  • Able to work with inner city youth facing a variety of social obstacles.
  • Patience and a commitment to helping participants understand that success is not always defined by winning the game.
  • Refusal to tolerate any manifestation of poor sportsmanship, i.e. “trash talk.”
  • Experience with operations related to athletic and recreation activities and events.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all activities within the Game Room, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for youth.
  • Manage and maintain all equipment, including pool tables, ping pong tables, and game consoles.
  • Organize and facilitate tournaments, and competitions for various games.
  • Teach and guide youth in playing various games in the Game Room.
  • Develop engaging activities and programs that foster a sense of community and inclusivity.
  • Enforce rules and guidelines to maintain a respectful and cooperative atmosphere.  
  • Act as community liaison for any external events
  • Collaborate with the Athletics and Community Enrichment Services department to ensure comprehensive promotion of events.
  • Facilitate registration for teams in-house and at other tournaments.
  • Organize, distribute, and maintain security of equipment.
  • Notify supervisor of equipment needs.
  • Setting up and breaking down sets for game day operations
  • Inform supervisor of youth who may require additional support around behavior and performance.
  • Fill out all required incident reports, accident reports or behavior reports as needed and file them with the Supervisor within 24 hours.
  • Maintain appropriate certifications, including CPR, RTE and other DOH required trainings.
  • Provide crisis intervention to consumers when necessary.
  • Communicate program issues with coaches and athletics and community enrichment administration.
  • Attend all required trainings as designated by Henry Street Settlement

Essential Physical Job Functions:

  • Ability to lift to 50 lbs. 
  • Capable of walking up and down multiple flights of stairs throughout the day 
  • Able to stand for long periods of time as needed.
