Responsibilities:
- Learns to arrange and conduct funeral and memorial ceremonies in a professional, organized and caring manner
- Learns how to arrange for the interment or cremation of human remains
- Cares for the deceased in a respectful manner while performing a variety of tasks which may include: removals and transfers, lifting of deceased human remains, dressing and casketing, delivery and set up of flowers or mementos of client families, setting of chapel and facilities for funeral services, and assisting at church and cemetery services
- Assists with general office duties
- Assists with maintaining of facilities and regular cleaning
- Drives funeral and service vehicles
- Placing orders for and retrieving death certificates from local and regional county clerks
- Assists with ensuring all client files are properly filed and inputting vital records
- Provides customer service in all areas of helping client families following the loss of a loved one
- Performs removals and transfers of decedents
Experience:
- Minimum 6 months in a funeral home, crematory, or cemetery, OR, similar environment
- Knowledge of computers, including: MS Office products and Adobe software
- Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively
- High level of empathy, compassion integrity
- Ability to multitask and prioritize
Certification/Licenses
- Funeral Apprentice License (033-)
Work Environment and Demands:
- Professional dress required at all times in order to interact with families
- Physical effort requiring manual dexterity is required. This includes: paperwork, typing, computers, lifting, and handling of instruments.
