10-Month Tenure Track Position
COMPENSATION:
Initial salary placement ranges from $55,714 to $87,247, based upon education and experience. The current faculty salary schedule includes five classes and twenty steps with a maximum annual salary of $116,888. A District-paid comprehensive benefit package which includes medical, dental and vision insurances for the employee and dependents, and a $50,000 employee life insurance policy are provided. Representative Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
Teach scheduled classes on-campus and in-person, hold scheduled office hours, and perform related duties as assigned in accordance with the Faculty Contract.
Teaching and promoting student learning in Child Development courses in the classroom and practicum settings; assess student learning outcomes and provide students with timely written and verbal feedback.
Demonstrating knowledge of and ability to appraise the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of students, as well as sensitivity to the needs, problems and challenges associated with the diversity of the community college student population.
Creating and maintaining an effective student-centered learning environment for adult students.
Integrating the latest research and utilizing a variety of teaching/learning strategies including the use of technology to promote student learning and assess learning outcomes.
Participating in curriculum development and revision, and establishing program outcomes and assessment, including working with program advisory committee to address the needs of the community and update the curriculum.
Educating new and continuing students about career opportunities and the Child Development Permit.
Maintaining continuous relationships with public and private agencies that provide services to families and young children, and building new partnerships and articulation agreements with other institutions such as high schools, two- and four-year colleges/universities.
Referring students to appropriate resources on/off campus.
Participating in professional development activities related to teaching/learning, and keeping abreast of changes in Child Development.
Participating in college governance through department, division and college committee service work, and participating in department activities.
Participating in assessment, evaluation, and planning of Student Learning Outcomes and Program Learning Outcomes, Program Review, Curriculum Development.
Participating in the Child Development Program's growth, participating in the Child Development events on campus and off campus.
Participating in collecting, conducting, and analyzing student data for grant writing purposes.
Performing other duties as assigned.
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's in Child Development, early childhood education, human development, home economics/ family and consumer studies with a specialization in Child Development/early childhood education or educational psychology with a specialization in Child Development/early childhood education OR Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in social work, educational supervision, elementary education, special education, psychology, bilingual/bicultural education, life management/home economics, family life studies or family and consumer studies OR the equivalent.
Must have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working with community college students
Experience working with Transitional Kindergarten (TK), preferred training in Play-Based Curriculum and/or Emergent Learning Curriculum
Experience working with Infant and Toddlers, preferred training from Program for Infant Toddler Care
Experience working with Trauma-Informed Care/Practices, preferred training in Trauma-Informed Care
Knowledge of the Nature Explores Outdoor Classroom.
Experience working with Preschool aged children, preferred training in Play-Based Curriculum and/or Emergent Learning Curriculum
Experience working with early elementary (Transitional Kindergarten-3rd grade), preferred training in Play-Based Curriculum and/or Emergent Learning Curriculum
Interest in incorporating a variety of teaching methods
Enthusiasm for the learning process
Commitment to supportive relationships with students and colleagues
Vision and energy to plan and organize programs to enhance student success

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Office, classroom, lab and/or on-line environment. Position requires ability to communicate and exchange information. The assignment may include day, weekend, and/or evening classes on campus and/or at off campus locations. Position requires ability and schedule flexibility to accommodate active participation in College and Department Outreach Events such as College and Career Fairs and College and Community Presentations.
Knowledge and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Knowledge in Child Development Theories and Child Development Pedagogy
Knowledge of the California's Master Plan in Education.
Knowledge in Play-Based Curriculum and/or Emergent Learning Curriculum for 0-8 years of age.
Knowledge in Program for Infant Toddler Care
Knowledge of Head Start and state funded programs
Knowledge in Trauma-Informed Care/Practices.
Knowledge of early intervention and inclusion practices in early childhood programs and community college level
Knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion practices in early childhood programs and at the community college level
Knowledge in a variety of Child Development assessments (Desired Results Developmental Profiles- DRDP, Ages and Stages Questionnaires- ASQ, Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale- ECERS, Infant Toddler Environment Rating Scale-ITERS, and Classroom Assessment Scoring System- CLASS).
Knowledge of the State of California Commission on Teacher Credential for Child Development Permits levels, application process and professional growth hours.
Knowledge in online instruction.
Knowledge of collecting, conducting, analyzing student data for grant writing purposes.
ABILITY TO:
Ability to collaborate with others on projects for the department/college/community.
Ability to collect, conduct, and analyze student data for grant writing purposes
Ability to balance teaching schedule, advise students, work on projects for the department/college/community.
Ability to present annual workshops/trainings to school groups, community organizations, families, educators and future educator.
Ability to develop and provide instructional curriculum that demonstrates innovation and full inclusion with specific attention to diversity
Ability to demonstrate flexibility while operating effectively in an environment of change
Effective interpersonal communication skills, participation in community affairs, ability to conduct effective public presentations
