Back to all Jobs Full-Time Fire Chief Closes On: November 30, 2023 at 11:59 PM CST Department: Fire Job Status: Full-Time Rate of Pay: $72,800 - $94,120 Position Type: Full Time Status: Accepting Applications Apply Now Job Summary Provides leadership and administration of the Fire Department; performs a variety of technical, administrative, and supervisory work in planning, organizing, directing, and implementing fire prevention, fire suppression and emergency medical services to prevent or minimize the loss of life and property by fire and other hazardous situations. Minimum Education and Experience Requires a Bachelor's Degree from a four year college or university in Fire Science, Public Administration or a related field, supplemented by three to five years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must have 10 years of experience in Fire or Emergency Medical Services work, 5 of which must have been equivalent to the rank of Fire Captain or higher.

Must have at least 3 years' actual experience as a paid firefighter. Must possess or have the ability to readily obtain a valid Driver's License issued by the State of Oklahoma for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Dental, Vision, Flex Spending, Critical Illness and Accident policies are available (employee paid). The position includes a City vehicle for after-hour response. Job Responsibilities A.

Plan, coordinate, supervise, and evaluate all employees and operations. B. Establish policies and procedures for the department in order to implement directives from the City Manager.

C. Plan and implement programs for the City in order to better carry out policies and goals, review departmental performance and effectiveness; formulate programs or policies to alleviate deficiencies. D.

Supervise, coordinate, prepare, and presents annual budget request; direct implementation of the department's budget; plan for and review specifications for new or replaced equipment. E. Respond to alarms and personally direct activities at the scene of major emergencies.

F. Provide guidance for inspections and enforcement of City ordinances and State fire codes; provide guidance on the investigation of arson activities. G.

Monitors, reviews and communicates the implementation phases of the department's strategic plans to ensure that long-range goals and objectives are met. H. Monitors and communicates policies, procedures and standards for the department to identify and correct deficiencies or problems.

I. Plans, coordinates, assigns and monitors performance and coaches, counsels, mentors, trains and advises employees in department for the dual goals of meeting department goals and employee career development. J.

Confers with upper management to keep them informed on key issues and progress toward objectives and to gain their support and approval; makes recommendations to assist management in making needed improvements. K. Ensures that quality standards and compliance with regulations are maintained.

L. Maintains and enhances professional knowledge, skills and development through continuing education and training. M.

Performs special assignments as requested, to include researching and preparing reports and projects, developing and implementing programs, administering state and federal grants and presenting technical data to management, elected officials and others. N. Represents the City at various functions to establish goodwill and resolve/respond to issues.

O. Coordinates department activities with other city departments and outside agencies. P.

Responds to all major citizen complaints; oversees public and community relations. Q. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities KNOWLEDGE - Knowledge of relevant city, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies. Knowledge of the development and administration of municipal budgets. Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.

Knowledge of incident command protocol. Knowledge of principles and practices of modern fire suppression and prevention techniques and equipment. Knowledge of fire-based emergency medical service system and EMS certification requirements.

Knowledge of ambulance billing practices and policies. Knowledge of techniques of fire prevention to include: inspection methods, fire hazards, and methods of eliminating hazardous conditions. Knowledge of hazardous materials handling and clean-up.

Knowledge of principles and practices of fire safety and inspection. Knowledge of personnel laws, policies, and regulations. SKILLS - Skilled in the use of computers and various software programs.

Skilled in developing long-range and short-term strategic plans. Skilled in handling stress effectively without it interfering with performance. Skilled in organizing and setting priorities, and exercising sound independent judgment within areas of responsibility.

Skilled in managing personnel effectively and efficiently. Skilled in communicating clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing. Skilled in using tact, discretion, initiative and independent judgement within established guidelines.

Skilled in the training and supervision of personnel. ABILITIES - Ability to maintain discipline and respect of subordinates. Ability to perform work requiring good physical conditions.

Ability to act effectively in emergency and stressful situations by using appropriate problem solving skills, self-discipline, and courtesy. Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships and attitudes with co-workers and the public. Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.

Ability to operate computers for data entry, word processing and/or accounting purposes. Ability to establish policies for using, acquiring, and/or maintaining technology systems. Ability to create plans for and guide implementation of capital improvement plans or programs.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Qualifications Must be at least 21 years of age. Must possess a valid driver's license without record of suspension or revocation in any state, no felony convictions or disqualifying criminal histories within the past 7 years; must be a US citizen; must have at least three (3) years of experience as a paid firefighter and be a current member of the Oklahoma Firefighters Pension and Retirement System, as required by Oklahoma State law.
