BWXT is currently seeking a Fuel Development Operations Manager for its Advanced Technologies location in Lynchburg, VA!

 

BWXT is People Strong, Innovation Driven - be part of BWXT’s innovation hub. BWXT’s Advanced Technologies (AT) group researches, designs, and develops innovative new nuclear reactors, nuclear rocket propulsion systems, and radioisotope production systems for both internal and external customers.

 

The Fuel Development Operations Manager will be responsible for the safe operations and day-to-day direction of personnel assigned to Fuel Development activities in the emerging programs chemistry laboratories as well as development activities and bench testing/experimentation to scale up of pseudo manufacturing processes with new/novel equipment and techniques.

Job Description / Duties:

  • Establish priorities for evaluation of system improvements utilizing new technologies and advanced techniques.
  • Prepare and review system and equipment implementation, installation & improvements with facilities and technical experts.
  • Prepare, review, and approve operating procedures.
  • Ensure regulatory and customer requirements are met.
  • Direct the trouble shooting and repair of "out of spec" techniques and processes.
  • Coordinate the preventive maintenance of equipment and techniques.
  • Interface with chemistry laboratory supervisor, other technical experts and research personnel for materials characterization and chemical processing interfaces.
  • Interface with engineering, program, and manufacturing stakeholders for alignment on a daily basis.

 

Job Qualifications / Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Must have a minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience.
  • Must have a minimum of five (5) years of leadership / supervisory experience.
  • Must possess an understanding of waste management.
  • A strong skill set in materials chemistry which includes the processing, structure, and performance of ceramics processing techniques is required.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • If required, must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance.

 

Additional Desired Skillsets:

  • Experience in an operating laboratory environment.
  • Demonstrated direct personnel management skills.
  • Knowledge of advanced analytical instrumentation such as ICP-MS, FTIR, TGA, SEM, etc.
  • Previous experience in the development of ceramics.
  • Prior experience in a nuclear or cGMP environment.
  • Previous experience in work control processes to evaluate a process, perform required investigations, and ensure the safe execution of facility layout and experimentation.
