This position supervises, trains, staffs, and reviews the work of all Crossing Guards assigned to various school crossings, as well as staffing alternate Crossing Guards or performing the duties of a Crossing Guard in the absence of the assigned guard. Receives direction from high levels of supervisory and management staff. Exercises direct supervision over all Crossing Guards.

GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE CROSSING GUARD SUPERVISOR

CROSSING GUARD SUPERVISOR - ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Plan, assign, supervise, and review the work of the Crossing Guards; provide administrative direction to the personnel assigned.
- Oversees the hiring process of Crossing Guards with assistance and direction from the Field Operations Captain and Deputy Chief of Police.
- Evaluate the performance of the Crossing Guards and take whatever corrective measure is necessary to improve their performance.
- Keep and maintain appropriate records on stolen and found bikes; manage bicycle safety grant.
- Prepare and maintain accurate payroll records.
- Establish schedules for providing Crossing Guard services; participate in the selection of personnel.
- Provide and document training work with employees to correct deficiencies and implement discipline procedure.
- Prepare reports on Crossing Guard activities.
- Supervise and participate in normal Crossing Guard activities to include working a crossing in an emergency.
- Review the work of assigned personnel to ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures as well as city and state ordinance.
- Follow up on all problems and complaints.
- Order and maintain adequate supplies and equipment for all Crossing Guards.
- Maintain an orderly storage area for all recovered bicycles; ability to use computer to search files for bicycles that have been reported stolen and match them with found or recovered bicycles.
- Ability to organize and conduct a public auction to sell bicycles that can't be identified or returned to owner; ability to work with young people and develop bicycle safety programs.
- Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public, school administration, and affiliated school associations.
- Attend and participate in required training.
- Participate in safety and risk management activities; take action to reduce liability to the city.
- Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position. Employee is required to work as a team and frequently meet with co-workers and supervisors; employee is required to communicate in-person with the public during office hours; and employee is required to use on-site equipment.
- Perform other related duties as required/assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- At least two years extensive clerical experience; police support work preferred.
- Equivalent of an Associate's degree in a related field.
- An equivalent combination of the above stated work experience and education is acceptable.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid Utah State driver's license.
- Employee will be required to complete NIMS IS100, IS200, IS700 and IS800 within one year of hire.
