Purpose
To ensure that quality service, product and overall experience are provided to customers.
Each MANAGER acts as the onsite face of Midnight Sun and should have extensive knowledge of the beers, foods and merchandise we offer. He/she should be competent in working on the floor as well as behind the bar.
FOH MANAGER is supervised and directed by the General Manager, and works in cooperation with Head Chef, Kitchen Lead and Head Brewer.
Knowledge and Skills
- A passion for craft beer and the brewing industry
- Five or more years restaurant/bar management experience, preferably FOH with craft beer emphasis
- Experience in creating and tracking sales promotions and retail events with positive cost-to- profit results with long-term retail sales growth as the goal
- Fun and creative spirit with ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Strong skill set in scheduling, motivating, and managing a variety of personality types
- Ability to create and develop successful internal and external relationships with MSBC employees and owners as well as vendors, distributors, and customers
- Ability to handle negotiations and conflict resolution and achieve positive results
- Ability to work independently as well as part of the MSBC team
- Strong knowledge of MSBC, its history and its product offerings
- Strong knowledge and experience in the local market—being aware of promotions/events at other establishments and balancing MSBC promotions/events with other local events
- General knowledge of brewing process and how all MSBC beers are produced
- High level of self-motivation
- Strong organizational, project and time management skills
- Attention to detail, achieving accurate results in a timely manner
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills
- Solid computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite [Word, Excel, Outlook]
- Strong skill set in social networking: FB and Twitter; with ability to learn WordPress posts
- Ability to complete company’s administrative requirements such as time sheets, expense reports, weekly call reporting, monthly recaps, monthly calendar, etc.
- Ability to follow-through on commitments to MSBC management, employees, and customers
Duties and Responsibilities
- All skills of Lead/Beerista acquired and performed to an above satisfactory level
- Supervision of crew
- Ensures that all staff scheduled for any given shift have been adequately trained and have filled out their training packet and job description forms for records
- Works with Operations Manager to ensure adequate staffing for efficient running of FOH, per shift and in general. Maintain schedule for one month out at a time and have Operations
Manager review and edit prior to post.
- Actively works with all support crews to increase productivity and efficiency of FOH, including kitchen and brew staff, and public relations
- Keeps FOH staff up-to-date and informed of pertinent events and staffs accordingly for said events
- Mediates conflict resolution among FOH staff, or between support crews and FOH staff, or conflict involving customers and FOH staff, and documents accordingly for upper management
- Works with upper management regarding disciplinary action if needed for FOH staff members re: conflict, job performance, etc
- Scheduling of staff one month at a time
- Routinely schedules meetings for FOH staff, to include support crews, to maintain excellence in service in the Loft
- Assists FOH staff with shift coverage if needed for immediate events, such as illness, etc and amends schedule for vacation requests submitted by FOH staff member
- Assists upper management and support crews in staffing for external/special events involving FOH staff
- Maintenance of FOH staff records
- Keeps record of FOH staff employment history of Promptly reviews staff at designated times in employment for performance checks and applicable wage increases per general management’s discretion o Maintains all documentation regarding individual employee performance, conflict resolution, etc. in employee’s employment history to Ensures that all advances in position in FOH are documented & initialed or signed. Job descriptions are up to current position held. o Ensures TIPS/TAMS records up-to-date for all FOH staff o Ensures Food Workers cards are up-to-date for all FOH staff
- MSBC FOH Procedures
- Beer Management by placing weekly beer order in Ekos, ensure it gets put away by Leads and stay up on beer releases
- Maintain any changes in Mobile Bytes POS
- Maintain Retail Inventory by stocking and ordering
- Maintains and ensures the cleanliness of FOH through routine deep clean checks- works in conjunction with Beeristas
- Adjusts deep cleans and side work lists as necessary to maintain cleanliness and upkeep of retail spaces, including Loft (bar and dining room), Merchandise Closet, Retail Bathrooms
(3), To-Go Bar area and Entry, Inside and Outside Stairs, Lift, and Deck.
- Responsible for overall impression of MSBC Loft to public o Ensures staff is adequately groomed and attired for shift o Works with support crews to maintain impression of Loft as a clean, fun, funky beer and food establishment, while complying with all OSHA and Serve Safe standards of production
- Works with support crews, especially Head Chef and Head Brewer, to educate and inform staff on specials, beer/food pairing options, and overall beer knowledge through the formation and execution of meetings/classes available to all FOH and support staff
- MSBC Charitable Donations
- Handles/tracks charitable donations requests, coordinating details with Production Team
Marketing Tactics and Sales Promotions
- Use social networking media to present MSBC’s menu items, beer tapping’s, pairing suggestions, promotions, and events to the public on an almost daily basis.
- Create and coordinate sales promotions to generate Loft and To-Go Bar sales, working with
Sales and Marketing Manager and Head Chef – special beer-food pairings, community-minded events (like BCA, Green Star and Anchorage Book Swap, etc)
- Communicate event/promotion details to staff through emails, white boards, calendars, etc as well as to public with Loft/To-Go Bar signage, including table info
- Participate in off-site events, as needed, to promote MSBC and increase MSBC customer base
Compensation and Benefits:
- Permanent, full-time position
- Hourly wages based on a 40-hour work week
- Mostly Tuesday-Sunday day/eve hours with the exception of some promotions, events and some Monday am meetings
