.JOB TITLE: Medical Receptionist/Scheduler
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Responsible for receiving visitors and patients, ascertaining their needs, and directing them accordingly. Scheduling appointments and performing related clerical duties; entering information into system; completing forms; completing medical chart entries and preparing charts for filing.
- Candidate must be able to multitask at the Front Desk.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to Practice Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Greets patients and visitors in a prompt, pleasant, and helpful manner.
2. Registers new patients verifies and updates demographic and insurance information established patients.
3. Monitors reception area and patient flow, notifies patients of delays.
4. Answers questions and gives information, directly to person or on the telephone.
5. Collects fees for services rendered.
6. Maintains and updates current information on physician's schedules ensuring that patients are scheduled properly and appointments are confirmed.
7. Answers telephone, screens calls, takes messages, and provides information.
8. Schedules outpatient appointments and admissions as requested.
9. Assembles patient’s charts for next day visit. Updates profile on all patients.
10. Attends meetings as required.
11. performs other duties as required or directed.
The job holder must demonstrate competencies applicable to the job position.
EDUCATION: High school graduation or GED.
EXPERIENCE: One year work experience, preferably in a medical office setting. Knowledge of medical terminology desirable. Word processing and computer experience.
KNOWLEDGE:
1. Knowledge of business office procedures.
2. Knowledge of the nature and provisions of health insurance plans.
3. Knowledge of medical terminology and coding.
4. Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation to type patient information.
SKILLS:
1. Skill in operating a computer and copy machine.
2. Skill in answering the telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner and using a multi-line telephone system.
ABILITIES:
1. Ability to speak clearly and concisely.
2. Ability to read, understands, and follows oral and written instruction.
3. Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetic or numeric systems.
4. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: Work may require hand dexterity for telephone and office machine operation, stooping and bending to files and supplies, sitting for extended periods of time. Manual dexterity for using a calculator and computer keyboard.
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in an office environment. Involves frequent telephone contact with patients. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive.
