Reporting to the VP of Design, Men’s, the Freelance Assistant Designer will assist with the seasonal design and development process for Men’s Underwear from concept to delivery. The role will support original and trend-appropriate design concepts that meet market needs and drive sales, ensure timely execution of each stage in the process with a focus on digital sketching and tech pack creation. The ideal candidate will be passionate & enthusiastic about design, hard-working, creative, and will be able to thrive in a fast paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Support the research and development of new design concepts while maintaining Tommy John brand DNA
- Create and maintain design cads and cad decks, communicate updated information to the cross-functional teams
- Build presentation boards for internal meetings
- Build detailed tech packs and provide detailed layouts for factories
- Develop strong working relationships with cross-functional team members (production, marketing, PR) through communication and problem solving work according to style plans, sales needs and emerging trends; ensure timely execution of product development calendar
- Attend fittings and assist tech designers with comments
- Maintain CAD deck organization
Experience, Skills, & Attributes:
- Bachelor's degree in Fashion/Apparel Design
- Minimum years of experience- internships to 2 years in underwear/intimates or sleep/loungewear category; Dual gender experience, a plus
- Expert technical skills in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, & PLM, Centric experience a plus
- Confident technical understanding of cut & sew-specific garment construction-required
- Experience working closely with Merchandising teams to create cohesive seasonal collections
- Solid understanding of design process- computer flat sketching, trim development, print development, merchandising
- Good eye for color and trend, and ability to follow creative direction for trend and trim research
- Keen attention to detail, excellent organizational skills and ability to take independent action to achieve objectives
- Ability to confidently assist in design and concept presentations to company
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects and deadlines at a time
Hourly rate: $27 to $31.25/hr
