About the program:
- Earn While You Learn Model - The combination of education and work time (as a Unit Helper) will allow students to be a full-time 40-hour employee. As a full-time employee students will be eligible for all the Northern Light Health benefit offerings including, medical, dental, vision insurance, retirement savings, paid time off, wellness programs, and more!
- External and in-system hires will start at Lakewood on April 16, 2024.
- Internal hires will start in their new roles on April 29, 2024.
- Class starts the week of April 29, 204 and is approximately 12 weeks in length.
- Work Schedule will vary. Nurse managers will schedule employees work time around the required education time .
- Education Schedule (subject to change) - The first class will be 4/29 -12:30-5:00. Class will then be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday from 8:00 AM-12:30 PM. Lab is on Wednesdays from 1:00-3:30 (*with the exception of the first lab on 4/30 which is a Tuesday.) Clinicals start in week 9-Week 11 and will run from 7:00 AM- 12:30 PM. Week 12 will be review and State Exam.
- Training will be on-site at Lakewood.
- Funding for this program is in partnership with RSU 24 Adult Education in Sullivan and other community partners.
- Upon completion of the program students are required to transition to a full-time CNA position with a two-year work commitment.
- Students will be eligible for a sign on bonus following the transition to a full-time CNA position.
Summary :
The Unit Helper assists the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with some work functions while under the direction and supervision of a Licensed Nurse. Provides supervision and assists residents to maintain personal hygiene by: Combing hair and painting nails when desired by resident, Helping the C.N.A. with the hydration cart, Labeling personal items, Assist the dining room staff with set up and clean up, Pass food trays in dining room, Performing activities with residents such as reading or doing puzzles, Make beds, Clean Whirlpool room, Pick up clutter and help keep the unit clean.
