The Nightingale-Bamford School seeks a short-term Leave ReplacementFourth Grade Homeroom Teacher  from March through May 2024 and will run approximately 9 weeks. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with Fourth Grade students and an eagerness and ability to collaborate with others. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate a strong interest in and understanding of child development, possess excellent oral and written communication skills, take initiative, and display an innovative spirit. The candidate should be committed to applying an equity lens to their practice and driven to explore ways to reach all learners through differentiated instruction and student-centered practices. Finally, the candidate must be fluent in the use of technology and well-versed in positive classroom management techniques and a variety of assessment methods.  

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):

  • Teach reading, English, social studies, mathematics, and SEL
  • Collaborate as part of a grade-level team to continuously improve curriculum and instruction 
  • Support students as they work on a year-long research project and an end of year poetry presentation
  • Create a positive classroom environment and support children’s social and emotional growth through developmentally appropriate and responsive practices
  • Attend two day / one night class trip to a YMCA camp in upstate New York
  • Foster strong communication and problem solving skills, creative thinking, ethical decision making, collaboration and innovation in students
  • Use grade-level guidelines to assess and evaluate students, maintaining records and writing narrative reports accordingly 
  • Build relationships with and maintain regular contact with Fourth Grade families.
  • Participate in conferences with Fourth Grade families and write end of the year term reports
  • Participate in and contribute to the school community outside of the classroom.
  • Attend school events as needed
  • Attend weekly meetings as a member of the professional community
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the division head

DESIRED COMPETENCIES AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in elementary education
  • Strong communication (verbal, written, interpersonal) skills and leadership qualities
  • Demonstrated organization and planning skills; strong attention to detail, as well as follow-through skills to ensure completion of goals and objectives.
  • Strong background and familiarity in teaching reading, writing, math, and social studies skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ease in effectively prioritizing multiple competing tasks and demands while collaborating with a large teaching team 
  • A shared understanding of the mission of the School and a demonstrated commitment to the core principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and an ability to understand, appreciate, and work with constituents across varied backgrounds and cultures
  • High level of initiative, proven ability to work collaboratively

SALARY

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the total payment for this position ranges from  $11,000 to $14,000.  Nightingale considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
