Homeroom / PE / Life Skills Teachers (part-time)

The School for Young Performers is looking for a part-time Homeroom / PE / Life Skills Teacher for a middle school student on the Upper East side of Manhattan. The educator/aide will work 6-10 hours/week in a fluid one-on-one classroom construct for the remainder of the 2023-2024 school year. The educator is expected to be able to work on school readiness, physical education, social/emotional skills and Life Skills at the elementary school/middle school level with breadth, depth, and creativity. The hours are mornings only, thus this is not an after-school position. As the goal is for 1:1 instruction, only local candidates open to in-person teaching will be considered. Do NOT apply if you live more than a 60-min commute from Manhattan.

Ideal candidates must have the following:

-Experience teaching PE, Health, SEL and/or Life Skills for Grades 4-8 (strong preference for having additional teaching experience) for a minimum of 3 years.

-Training in CBT, OT, etc a plus

-Experience as a homeroom teacher and/or classroom aide/para

-Experience working with children receiving instruction in a hospital environment as an aide, therapist, etc a huge plus

-Expert in all aspects of student support/school readiness/working on transitions

-Experience with students with medical conditions and/or behavioral issues a plus

-Conscientious, creative, engaging, flexible and professional

-Comfortable working with lead teachers, taking direction on varying classroom tasks/expectations and an all around team player

-Can easily go back and forth between different concepts with a symbiotic emphasis

-Experience working 1-on-1, small group classes or in homeschool constructs

-Ability to create interdisciplinary activities

- Availability between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm (approx; this is a 6-10 hr/week position, meaning sessions 5 days a week at one location, but sometimes assisting student with commuting to other classes)

- Have a personal computer with email/MS Office AND a cell phone with access to email

- Be a United States citizen with proper U.S. government documentation OR have a valid green card with permission to work in the U.S.
